>The Scottish wildcat population is on the brink of extinction with most wild-living cats now hybrids, according to new research.
>It said hybridisation – wildcats breeding with feral or domestic cats – was a major threat to the species.
Another result of irresponsible pet ownership
It’s worth highlighting that despite the gloomy-sounding headline, conservationists at the [Saving Wildcats](https://savingwildcats.org.uk/) project have been doing incredible work to restore this indigenous animal to the Scottish Highlands. They’ve built up a breeding population, and are about to start releasing cats into the wild. It’s obviously a bit of a “luxury” charity, but one I’d suggest might be worth checking out if you support biodiversity (and cute cats).
I will say it again- who would have thought that releasing millions of non-native predators is going to have negative effects on native species of birds, cats and critters. I am SHOCKED. Shocked I tell you

Unless you can find a way to make domestic cats not look sexy to wildcats and vice versa there’s not a lot you can do about it, the heart wants what it wants.
If a Scottish wildcat wants a domestic boyfriend/girlfriend then I support their union!
Isn’t it more a case of them breeding with domestic cats? Maybe they should embrace a little diversity instead of complaining
