Gardeners issued ‘seek help immediately’ warning as deadly insects spotted in UK

  1. Another sign of climate change. These beasts used to not be able to thrive in our climate, but now they’re spreading throughout Europe.

    edit:

I confused the Asian Hornet and the Asian Giant Hornet. The regular Asian Hornet which this talks about is in fact not as dangerous or nor as averse to our regular climate than the Asian Giant Hornet.

  2. > This is because a sting from an Asian hornet may result in anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening, but is treatable if action is taken quickly.

    What, like a bee sting?

  3. “deadly insect” is shitty reporting of a serious issue.

Asian hornets can cause significant damage to our ecosystem and public knowledge is important for spotting.

  4. Another boiler plate article masquerading as news.

The tabloids like to publish stories about “aggressive invasive” species, technically called neozoa. They always follow the same pattern, like a bad movie, which means they are mostly fiction. They only replace a few details to align with current concerns.

  5. Saw a wasp a few days ago that looked smaller and darker than I am used to. Now I’m going to be paranoid as hell.

  6. Every year there’s guaranteed to be at least one panic article about giant hornets invading the UK. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a single one in my life.

  7. Have people tried *not* killing wildlife going about its life because of some bullshit ‘news article’.

Hate this sensationalist bullshit, causes people to be scared, and animals to be killed needlessly.

  8. There’s hornets the size of bats flying around Türkiye Willy nilly. We were on hols there and these things are so much bigger than other flying insects it’s not even funny. Saw a ground nest on a path in the ruins of Ephesus and people were just walking over it while these rat sized bees were just going in and out. And there was fuck all on the internet about them. I think things are moving around faster than people are keeping up with the movements.

  9. A sting from anything can cause Analphylaxis though… you generally don’t know you’re allergic to something until it happens…

Fairly obvious to avoid these things and pretty easy considering how loud and massive they are
