You’re not being asked to serve him, and it’s likely the people behind this have done less to serve Northern Ireland than the UK monarchy which supports hundreds of charities. Each year 8,500 young people in Northern Ireland are helped by the Prince’s Trust as an example.
Honestly guys, even if the British would magically leave Northern Ireland, what then? Drive out the potestants? More bloody war?
And what comes after? Suddenly you are no longer poor and the lives of you and your children are unicorns and rainbows?
Give this crap a rest already.
My favorite thing about the Northern Ireland fiasco was that it gave the British and Western Europeans in general a perspective on all the nationalist wars in the Balkans and eastern Europe.
The lesson is that people WILL die and sacrifice their families just to ensure that a pile of mud has their flag raised on it. If you don’t understand this basic concept then you can’t understand the geopolitics of like 90% of the world.
