Being a coffee lover for 10+ years, I used to
own few coffee shop, had €10+k worth of coffee at home and everything but never saw myself as a this kind of a person that looking at coffee as art or being too serious about it.

So, I moved to Luxembourg recently and was slightly surprised that there is not that much of good coffee around, especially after Berlin, London, Copenhagen or Stockholm. It’s rather strange to expect Luxembourg to be as coffee shop-dense as these cities though.

So, while I am sitting now waiting for my order in Egg, and haven’t managed to find any friends here yet to talk to (lol), I want to contribute to the society by turning this post into a Luxembourg coffee guide of some kind.

So, the first one would be The Egg obviously.

Quite comfy but large enough coffee shop with breakfasts, desserts and coffee. The second floor is stuffy, there is no background music, rather background chat mostly in English.

The service there is nice, if you consider to be noticed as service. I’m perfectly fine with this.

I ordered a flat white and the first position is menu which is Egg Bomb. It is a crusty bun with scrambled egg and bacon.

It is okay, but not the best breakfast dish ever. Being served in a bowl-shaped small dish it is not easy to eat it either.

I would recommend to go with something else.

2/5 from me.

Flat white.
Served in a small cup is a + from me because in other coffee shops there flat white is usually a cappuccino with extra €0.80 to the price.

The milk is too fluffy, slightly bubbly and hot, the espresso-part tasted fine to me

3.5/5 for the Coffee.

Overall:
The place is well situated not far from the Gare, the interior is simple but comfy enough.
The coffee gear is quite good there and the coffee is good, but there is place for improvement.
The food: I would try more to make a verdict. I believe the basics like avocado toast or traditional egg breakfast dishes are good.
There is some service.

Overall snobbish score 3.5/5

Please let me know whether I should continue wasting megabytes of internwebs to post another useless review nobody cares about or should I rather shut up or whine about Luxembourg 🙂

  1. I like it. I don’t go to town much so useful to get a guide to where to get coffee. Also – we can argue in the comments! I say keep going.

  2. Are those niche coffee beans from Northwest Thailand really that good? They seem to cost a lot but I rarely see them in the west

  3. Still have to go to egg, some other suggestions in Lux:

    – Intense coffee
    – Florence specialty coffe (small place)
    – Knopes coffee shop
    – Bloom specialty coffee

  4. babbocaffe in Esch-sur-alzette is great although not in the city. Though it is primarily a shop that sells freshly-roasted beans.

The “kaale kaffi” near the fishmarket in Luxembourg-city is often recommended to me but I find their coffee to be overly expensive and just not that good. On top of that, you need to go to the counter to order since there is no table service for only 10 tables. The decor is also a hard-pass for me though I can see some people absolutely loving their interior design.

  5. I was at Egg today. Were you the guy in the green jacket with shoulder length hair waiting in line around 1:30?

  6. I’m not a connoisseur but I hail from the land of coffee (didn’t actually realise how big a thing it is until I moved to Europe). Husband and I are also lowkey interested in coffee aroma and flavour though know little to none about the process to get there. We’ve tried a few around but have been impressed by little. I’d love to hear more reviews, please!

I love Market By Jeremy – my hairdressers own them and they’re adorable but I was pleasantly surprised how much I actually enjoy their coffee. The barista recommended Babbo in Esch (did not impress me but just around the corner from our house – so just convenient) and Florence (never been but have heard only good stuff).

Columbus is pretty crap. Dalmat in Belval is pretty good. Carli’s Coffee in Echternach have superb brunch and the best brownies I’ve ever had (I don’t throw around the compliment lightly), but coffee is complementary and not the main star for sure. Bloom did not impress me. Intense is pretty good.

Please do keep posting about coffee. Would love to hear your takes!

  7. Can you recommend me a good coffee in Stockholm ? I semi live there and only get gross water from the dishes being passed off as coffee in all places :/

  8. I went to bloom but the coffee was way too sour for my taste but idk if thats a recent trend? I don‘t see the appeal in sour coffee but people seem to love it here
