Oh yes, thanks to inflation all Poles gonna be a millionaires, take that UK!
Extrapolating some decade long predictions from recent GDP growth trends rarely end up panning out. Remember how in the 80s everyone believed that Japan was going to become a superpower in a few decades, just because the previous decade had been really good for them?
Of course Poland will grow in relevance in the near future, but i’ve never been a fan of these sensational economical predictions about a decade or more from now.
As a Pole, I doubt.
Considering we self-imposed what was essentially an insanely damaging embargo, I’m not surprised
> Polish defence spending will thus be more than twice that of other major Continental Nato members France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and significantly higher than that of the UK, which only plans to reach 2.5pc by 2030.
Only in the military useless metric of GDP percentage. In absolute value it will be spending nowhere near what the UK, France, Germany, and even Italy spend.
cue British plumber jokes….
Except a bunch of upper-class chinless wankers took our Free Movement right in exchange for sovereign tea
Get your shit together Britain. Rejoin!
And yet almost none of the poles who moved to UK and have residence there will move back.
Telegraph, in a surprise twist becomes an acceptable news source.
Recently I saw IMF prediction of UK being ahead of Germany in few years so Poland will also be wealthier then Germany?
stuff like this has been said for ages but everyone starts to plateau at some point. this is when all the easy opportunities have been taken and the liabilities are starting to grow.
Man the telegraph writes some garbage huh
due to Radio Maria….
LOL, sure..
I didn’t expect such ludicrous wishful thinking from a mainstream newspaper.
We bow to the New European Overlords.
The brits will go to Poland to work as plumbers and construction workers by 2050
TL;DR the headline writes a cheque that the article cannot cash.
The posted article states that Poland will surpass Britain in wealth by 2030, but the linked source article says nothing of the sort. The posted article talks about how Poland’s GDP per capita (adjusted for purchasing power parity) is closing in on that of Britain. However, GDP is not the same thing as wealth; GDP is a rate ($/year) and wealth is a number ($). Then when you adjust for a per capita basis, and then adjust further for PPP, it becomes even more distant from what could be considered wealth.
I’m always a bit anxious when foreigners praise our military strength and involvement and flatter us at our weakest point – heroism and honour. I always tend to feel they may have some hidden agenda then…
All this of course not changing a fact that Poland indeed made astonishing progress since 90s, economy is doing fine despite all odds, Germany is unreliable with its sympathy towards Russia and we have no choice than to have a strong army having Russia as a neighbour.
Looks like the future plumbers will have fewer consonants in their names
IF true , then integrate into shipping Polish goods to other places.
Is this supposed to make us feel weak or inadequate? If this proves true I’m more than happy for Poland to fulfil its potential.
Which is it, the UK needs to start acting like the small insignificant country that people like to say it is on this website? Or do/should we feel in some way ‘emasculated’ by an ally earning its stripes.
If anyone is surprised by this news they haven’t been paying enough attention to Europe, Romania has the potential to be the next success story.
Thats the prediction. Poland has much more population and potential as a (still) growing economy. While british are trying to find a foot in an empire whose sun has set.
Can’t wait for the Polish jokes on English plumbers.
Why would this bother me? Poland doing well is fine.
It might be just me, but I always sense a hint of implied racism/elitism/bias when I see headlines like that. The implication of the headline is that it is somehow absurd that the UK would be poorer than Poland, as if Poland doesn’t have the capability to do well for itselfl. With the UK shooting themselves ib the foot with Brwxit an Poland just having a period of strong growth, why wouldn’t that be possible. You can change the name for any other country, btw.
Like “American literacy rate drops to levels just above Estonia!” Le gasp! I know basically nothing about Estonia so for all I know they could have the highest literacy rates in the world, but the implications is that the US is teetering at the edge of a cliff because one more drop and they are the same level as Estiona….
that would mean Poland would be in top three economies in europe
so rip to a lot of other euro countries also I guess
Poles have had huge brass balls going all the way back to WW2, glad to see them kicking all kinds of ass
One really has to wonder about journalism at The Telegraph lately.
Kinda scary considering what their government is doing at the moment.
Anti lgbt, anti abortions and a dictatorial reform of the justice system.
