Revealed: senior Tory MP was paid £2,000 a month by lobbying firm

  1. We really need some radical changes, regardless of the party. It’s just slime, at every level probably in every party as well.

MPs should only be permitted to receive money via wages from the state. That’s it, no loopholes, no loans to pals, no overseas gov gifting, no second jobs, no lobby group payments, no executive board jobs. This should be made law not some list stuck on the subsidised fridge as a recommendation, that may or may not be looked at.

Maybe mandatory fines and sentences for breaching it and immediately banned from all public positions.

  2. Legal bribery and financial coercive behaviour. So does a company advertise, do the leg work, promote their product or take the easy way, buy policy, become the umbrella and monopolistic opportunity to stifle competition. Needs to change

  3. Parliament main building and all identical MP housing should be built in the midlands. MP wage is capped at £29k per year (what they are happy to give cops). No need for second homes in London, or important business breakfasts. Travel to constituency still paid. Thorough vetting of partners to ensure no conflict of interest. Banished from governmental role for life for contravening manifesto or the desires of constituents. What do we think?

  4. There are conflict of interest clauses in loads of private sector contracts. Why not for MPs. They get paid well enough and it might not be enough for some these cunts so at least then they fuck off and leave. I want people in parliament who care about their areas, not these money grabbing shitcunts.

  5. Not sure what is worse, the fact that the conflict of interest is not a crime punishable with jail or that these muppets are willing to sell us out for such meagre amounts of money.

  6. Imagine if police officers, teachers, nurses, fire fighters etc. we’re allowed to accept bribes. I mean legally allowed to accept bribes.

Why are those jobs held to stricter standards than the people running the country???

At worst a teacher could mess up the lives of a thousand children. These people set policies that affect millions!

  7. I’m not sure whether I should be more angered by the fact he was bribed or disappointed that a “senior tory” would negotiate such a pathetic sum for the bribe.

  8. An MP should be dedicated to their job & station, stuff like this is a distraction and conflict of interest that undermines representative democracy.

They feign to represent their constituencies for their own self interests, the whole system needs reform.

  9. On a side note, Local elections tomorrow, flyer through the door at 6pm asking to vote for a conservative councillor in their young 30s and starts with “I’m completely new to politics, never stood for council before, but have seen how bad things are in [county]”.

Goes on to say how bad the roads are, child services & protect free parking (it’s already £1 for 1hr or £3 for 24hrs which isn’t bad…) and yet they’re running for conservatives.

  10. The only way to change the status quo is for the people themselves to revolt.

It’s only a question of how bad things really need to get before the majority of people actually get off their arses and do something about it.

Things are warming up, yet I suspect there is still quite a way to go before it all erupts..
