It’s not like you’re doing it in the evenings, so it could be a lot worse. As long as it’s not going to be a regular thing, I doubt many people would have much of an issue with it.
People are allowed to do construction work the entire day. You’re making noise for 2 hours for 2 days and notify your neighbours beforehand. If it’s a one off it’s quite allright.
I definitely wouldn’t mind. You’ve given notice and it’s during the day. Hate it way more when people decide to place a moving elevator next to my window at 7am on a Sunday, without notice (happened last week).
A bit of loud music during the day for 2 days… Ehh I wouldn’t mind.
It’s a very polite letter, it’s only a couple of hours.. and you’re giving a heads-up in advance.
I would ‘t make an issue out of it if I got this from a neighbour
If I was one of your neighbours, I would really appreciate this note and the warning.
(I might grumble to myself if I need to study, but appreciate it anyway)
So, putting up this note is not a shit move, rather on the contrary. I’d say: well done.
Its VERY polite to give people a notice beforehand, and give them an exact timeframe.
This is a very kind thing to do. You have no obligation whatsoever to warn them about playing music, and as long as it’s within the dB limits (which are difficult to reach on a harp, lol) it isn’t “overlast”.
This is perfect, no worries!!
Because english? Yes
I mean… What else you gonna do? I think you’re fine
I think this is a very lovely and considerate thing to do.
I mostly hate loud noise during the day because I don’t know where it comes from or what it is, and that I don’t know when it will stop. I would be very pleased with this letter
It is not, these are very reasonable hours. I would love an impromptu concert!
People make noise every day (construction, lawn mowing,…) without warning. If this is not every day I would allow it
Musicians are allowed to practice at home. It’s your right. The fact that you warn people in a very kind manner is just bonus points.
It’s not shitty at all. If it’s just a one time thing, its very polite to notify you. It’s also during the day, and it’s classical music. Cmon man, be a little more tolerant.
If you live in a building where everyone speaks English, it’s ok. If you live in a building where you don’t know whether people speak English, you should also put it on in Flemish or French (dependent on where you live).
This is very thoughtful of you. I definitely wouldn’t mind after such a kind note! So no, it’s very much not a shitty thing to do
I would be very happy with the letter snd make sure I’m elsewhere those hours. I’m easily bothered by noise but if announced it wouldn’t be a problem for me
They’ll call cops on you
I wouldn’t mind listening to the jams to be honest. It’s free live music.
I have two thoughts on this:
1. 11 pm the day before is a bit of a late notice. It’s better than no notice, but I feel like it could have been earlier.
2. Does everyone in your building speak English?
Other than that, I wouldn’t mind.
I wouldn’t mind, and even if it would be distrubtive. Id rather talk with my neigbour than call the police .
Only if you’re really really bad
It’s actually increadibly considering of you. Not shitty move at all.
14-16h I don’t think anyone would mind. If it was early morning or late at night I’d personally call the cops if you didn’t get beaten up already by some other guy trying to sleep or not an early bird.
As someone with hyperacusis this would be death to me. That’s why I moved to a free standing house in a village, because you can’t limit your neigbours in their freedom to make sound (except at night).
Even if I had to study very hard I wouldn’t mind because this is so polite. I’d just put on some music for two hours it’s no big deal
It’s also not that they not tried to get a different room according to the letter
You can be as loud you want between 06.00 and 22.00, pretty much anywhere in BE, except for Sunday in some parts. You’re good, no shitty thing and very sensible times to do that if you are one of the few that care about neighbors.
Sometimes you’ll be bothering the neighbors, it happens. People sometimes need to do some manual work, hammer, drill… It’s annoying but it’s normal.
You’re giving people a warning, at least people who have the possibility to go some place else, instead of teleworking for instance, can do it.
If it becomes frequent that’s another story, but if it’s really exceptional then i think giving people a heads up is more than what most people would do, which is respectable.
My neighbor once warned me that she was giving a bbq and that things could get a little noisy. I told her I was building a deck that day, so I was going to be even louder. As long as you’re not doing it extremely early or late, people shouldn’t complain. Most people won’t be home during those hours and if they are home, chances are slim they will be trying to sleep.
I think most people will completely understand the situation. The only thing I’d be paranoid about is my neighbours potentially getting mad that I wrote the letter in English instead of French and/or Dutch. As I’m a foreigner myself, I don’t know how Belgians feel about receiving letters in English…
No, but I would have put on a notice a bit earlier.
Most students should be able to find another place to study like the library.
