‘Our credibility must be safeguarded’: Cyprus in turmoil after Russia sanctions

  1. >Island shuts 10,000 Russian bank accounts as US and UK put Cypriot lawyers and accountants under sanctions for enabling oligarchs including Roman Abramovich

When Abramovich was spending millions in the UK and became a celebrity with Chelsea everything was great, and it is Cyprus which supposedly “enabled” him.

The AngloAmericans were ecstatic when the USSR collapsed and communism was replaced with capitalism in Russia and the property of the state ended up in the hands of a few.

If Russia hadn’t turned against them they wouldn’t care less about the oligarchs or Russia, just like they don’t have a problem with their own oligarchs, the oligarchs of Ukraine, or the oligarchs of the various dictatorships (e.g. Gulf States) which they support.

The British can shove their “ethics” lessons up their ass. They are the most slimy hypocrites on the face of this planet.

  2. Christodoulidis I think fancies himself a lot more as an international player than Anastasiades.

I wonder if him looking like a complete toolbag when he flies around in the dinky RoC jet plays a big role in him acting relatively decisively on this.

I’m any case, step 1 of fucking off all this shit from Cyprus. Hope they sanction more.

  3. Lol what credibility, I’ve been saying for years that Cyprus needs to move away from dirty Russian money and while I hate this war with a passion for what it’s doing to peoples lives this is the perfect opportunity to detach ourselves from the kremlin and it’s oligarchs

  4. as someone in the finance industry, dirty money keeps flowing in with Cypriot individuals as Directors of 1819010 companies (im srs) , the sanctions just added one extra step to those retainer administrative services companies, and they’ll gladly bend over for a €600 retainer yearly fee regardless of the ethical and moral optics of it

  5. After the umpteenth scandal *now* they’re worried about their reputation…. we’re already called Moscow on the Med for F’s sake.
