Another heartwarming story, as I see over a grand taken out of monthly salary again and I’m still technically homeless (live at home) .
”If large lump sums of money are given to IP applicants as a result of the State not being in a position to offer accommodation, there is unease over how the court ruling may “filter around the world”.
Does the state not have an obligation to the 11,000+ homeless currently on the books? Or do refugees go to top of list ahead of all others waiting?
Not baiting anybody or trying to start something noxious, just curious if there’s a hierarchy of needs and a ‘seniority’ as such.
Terrible situation for everyone. Lived with the folks for years while saving for a house and it’s demoralising as an adult to still live with your parents.
Work with a guy who spends 70% of his take home pay on rent. I’d be a constant ball of anxiety if I was him.
_Fears we will have to follow European laws we signed up to_
Councils should be legally required to zone enough land either for new housing development or for intensification to satisfy population growth needs. If they do not do this an independent group of technocratic planners should redo the plan. No where should be exempt, even posh suburbs of Dublin need intensification.
Well I suppose the solution for the government is to speed up the processing of asylum applications, weed out all the bogus claims and enforce deportations.
Like I said the other day on another post.
Welcome to Ireland 🇮🇪 rest of the world. ‘tis a milking time, and an easy one!

Ha ha ha. You reap what you sow. As we know, every asylum seeker is completely legitimate and ireland has infinite capacity to take them, so I look forward to handing them additional billions (and billions) that we can take from things like health, social care and housing budgets. It’s just the right thing to do #IrelandForAll
All you right wingers make me sick. “Lets just blame Ukrainian refugees for everything”. /s
Would be a huge gift to the far-right if this happens.
Though at least officials now take stock of pull factors that “filter around the world”, which clearly hasn’t been the case in recent years.
It’s conflicting because I think we should help people but it’s clear while there are people coming who are in need of help there are many that are coming to game the system and people who think overwise are delusional. People who come here and want to work and build a better life should be able but asylum seekers suing the government using money from NGO’s that get money from the government is ridiculous and is gonna open the flood gates
Get fucked.
Is this charity or extortion.
payouts ? We already pay a billion a year…
stop…..
we aren’t a social welfare basket for the world free for the taking for people who travel through multiple countries and have NO connection to pur country and in 80 or 90 per cent of cases are ultimately refused asylum anyway because they arent genuine.
