Thank you r/Norway for your help with our trip! We absolutely loved every minute in your beautiful country and hope to visit more places again in the future.

I’m not going to bore you with pictures of your own country but wanted to share a bit about our adventures. On the train from Oslo to Flåm we ran into a solo Redditor from Boston who also used your advice in my earlier post. We were lucky to sit near her at dinner in Flåm at Ægir microbrewery and to see her again at Viking Village in Gudvangen. I hope the rest of her trip was equally enjoyable.

I’m sad to say that we didn’t get to do any of the things we wanted to do our first day. The jet lag was unbelievably debilitating due to being up for over 30 hours straight. We did, however, find the Vinmonpolet near the train station and loaded up with some Wongraven Wine (thanks for the tip, now deleted Redditor!)

Due to our exhaustion we did not go out for dinner but rather ate the dinner that was included with our room at the Clarion Bastion Hotel. Y’all, the food was really good! So good we ate dinner at the hotel again our second night there. u/ [Foxtrot-Uniform-Too](https://www.reddit.com/user/Foxtrot-Uniform-Too/), we did not see any hookers and are sorely disappointed about it. We downloaded the Ryde app so my husband could tool around a bit on the scooter someone left in front of our hotel. Thon Hotel Terminus did not yield any drug dealers that we could see but I do understand your point about location for these hotels.

The Ruter app was invaluable while we were in Oslo! I highly recommend using it if anyone else is lurking and planning a trip. It’s like Google Maps and ticketing in one. Thank you, u/ [Limenoodle\_](https://www.reddit.com/user/Limenoodle_/).

In Flåm the Fretheim Hotel was awesome. We had a Junior Suite and my husband would have been happy to just stop and stay right there in town for the rest of our trip. It’s just such a beautiful town and the people are lovely. We did the [https://www.fjordsauna.com/](https://www.fjordsauna.com/) group experience with eight new friends. I was a wuss and did not jump into the fjord but my husband did – several times. At the sauna we learned about Halmstad Cocktail Series CRUSH – Cloudy Mango and Passionfruit from one of the guests and stocked up at the local Coop.

We took the bus to Gudvangen which was a fine 20 minute ride through a very long tunnel. We had planned to take the really nice electric boat back to Flåm but that wasn’t till 5pm or so and we finished at Viking Village much earlier than expected. It was fun, interesting and I’m glad we did it but we only spent about an hour or so there. We managed to get a seat on another boat leaving Gudvangen to get back to Flåm earlier. What a beautiful boat ride through the fjords!

I wish I had known that we could have taken a boat all the way to Bergen from Flåm instead of the boat, bus, train route we took. We had a layover in Voss where we grabbed lunch. We sat down with our phones open to Google translate when a very nice server brought us a menu in English and explained that we were trying to decipher the catering menu. We also found the Vinmonpolet in Voss where my husband bought some Aquavit which he now has a fondness for.

I wish we had more time in Bergen. When we left the hotel to walk around in the morning it was snowing then the sun came out and it got warm, ten minutes later it started with tiny little pieces of hail then rain, ten minutes later the sun came out and it got warm again then snow again. LOL! It was glorious! We loved seeing all the kids in their Russefeiring outfits running around having fun.

My husband’s Facebook ads all started to be about how to hide his disgusting freckles for a smooth Nordic look. Thanks, Sephora!

We loved the train ride back from Bergen to Oslo and passing through ~~Hoth~~ Finse.

We also didn’t mind getting booted from our trolly train ride back to the hotel after visiting Vigeland Park because there was a crash between two of the trollies at the next intersection. We gawked and took pictures with everyone else.

Thanks for all your help with planning and your hospitality while we were there!

  1. It is very nice of you to take the time to write a post like this. It is probably inspiring for others who are considering a similar trip. It is also interesting to hear other people’s opinions about the various attractions. Sounds like you had a lot of fun on your trip!

  2. Wow, I’ve never seen tram on tram accidents before. Only tram on car.

Side question: How does an American find Vinmonopolet? Like it, meh, or dislike it?

  3. Sometimes I wonder if people are a actually going on these trips – lovely to hear about your experiences. I agree about the boat from Flåm to Bergen, I try to mention this if it seems to fit the schedule.

The weather have been a bit confusing lately.

  4. Tips about the “Wongraven Wine from a now deleted Redditor” was me, had to change nick since it was to close to my name, not good for my future jobs if I have to be honest in some discussions 🙂
Happy you enjoyed your trip and the Wine 😀
