The Dark Side of Norway’s Social Democracy: The Alarming Rise of Disability Claims and Entitlement Culture

  1. > Entitlement Culture,

Most teenagers were not afraid of huge credits/ loans from banks, and they believed that one day, the Norwegian government would distribute the oil fund to the people. They really believed they were entitled to a share of the Oli fund.

The interview was on a summer, in the city center with upscale teenagers in fancy clothes. Stavanger? Oslo? I dont remember it.

A few years before, there were Polish people giving tips to Norwegian teenagers on mone management. These classes were conducted by the state.

Even a monkey can exploit Soclalism, especially in a trust based society.

  2. This is such a ridiculous article, one out of two citizens receiving money from NAV, then to show it includes pension, sick leave, child allocations, maternity and paternity leave. In most countries those figures would be the same actually, even in the US if you include Medicare, Medicaid, the pension from the social security and the people who got their student loans cancelled.

  3. From [https://spectator.org/about/](https://spectator.org/about/):

    >The American Spectator Foundation educates the public on new ideas, concepts, and policies that favor traditional American values, such as economic freedom, individual liberty, self-sufficiency, and limited government

In other words: *Socialism BAAAAD, Capitalism GOOOOOD.* Sigh

From the only use of the word entitlement in the article: *”The teenagers surveyed, however, reported unashamedly a belief to have the right to money from the state. The sense of entitlement had already taken such strong roots in the young Norwegians..”*

So it posits receiving welfare money from the state as something that one *rightfully* should be ashamed of, but here in Norway, it is – **GASP** – something that you feel is your *right*, without even feeling ashamed! *The horror*!

Sometimes it’s good to be able to deconstruct subtext. This article is capitalist propaganda bs. If you think it is easy to get money from NAV or that you can live anything above existence minimum on it, you are deluded, I know the system. And if you think the govt should not provide welfare for those in need, you can f@ck off.

  4. The Spectator is not a serious source of information. It is a libertarian magazine that is filled with only opinion pieces. Absolutely zero journalism.

In fact, the Spectator has argued against almost all social programmes and protections in the UK for at least the last 70 years. They literally popularised the term “Nanny State”.

So the fact that they’ve tried to take a swipe at the social institutions of a country that is largely praised for those institutions should not come a s a surprise to anyone. Its definitely not an “Ooooooh look at these terrible things happening in Norway” story.

    It’s just libertarian fantasy writing.

  5. So, an article about a country where it’s citizens have a right to economical support, states that teenagers “*reported unashamedly a belief to have the right to money from the state.*”

Whats going to be next?! Citizens of countries states which rights they have?
