I’m moving to Germany and looking to buy a used car in Germany for under 2000 euros and private sellers have some very nice options. Some come with a TÜV for nearly two years. These are cars with high mileage (to be expected). An example is here: https://www.autoscout24.com/offers/volvo-v40-2-0t-gasoline-silver-03e722de-0f85-431a-8eb4-f4e441b732a1?sort=price&desc=0&lastSeenGuidPresent=true&cldtidx=141&position=141&search_id=kl11ycm2et&source_otp=t10&source=listpage_search-results&order_bucket=unknown
I’ve heard the TÜV test is quite thorough. I’m trying to get an idea of how thoroughly things are checked? Would you buy a car like this with reasonable confidence that it doesn’t have hidden issues?

Try to buy them from official partner dealers and not some shady dealers with parking yard as the showroom and container as the office.
But yeah TÜV means that the car is safe for use on roads, though I’d still bring somebody that knows cars.
