Majority of Brits want to stay part of ECHR, finds poll

  1. I couldn’t give a toss what the majority of Brits want, our collective IQ is about 70

  2. To be fair the only people who want rid of it are idiots and/or people who like to exploit others.

  3. Too bad that was one of the main reasons the pro-brexit camp pushed it through – less human rights makes it easier to exploit the population for their personal wealth.

  4. Who would’ve thought that something we helped set up for the good of everyone in Europe would be good for our own people.

  5. I think the majority of Leave voters thought that we would leave the ECHR on leaving the EU. I did explain it to several and give them resources to check for themselves, but none would.

  6. Majority of Brits also don’t think prisoners should have the vote, so I think it’s safe to say the public don’t understand this issue at all.

  7. I don’t see any logical argument for why we should exit the ECHR. Our sovereignty remains intact, Parliament can still legislate contrary to it if it like (like it did in e.g. the new migration bill). All it really provides is an avenue to challenge public authority actions that violate human rights, which I can’t really see as being a bad thing.

If anything, the Human Rights Act just needs to be changed to remove section 3 and stop courts “reinterpreting” legislation to make it compatible with the ECHR (unelected individuals legislating from the bench), which I think the government is planning on doing anyway.

  8. The majority of brits just have to accept that they lost! We live in a democracy and Brexit is the democratic will of the people. We will cut our island off from the world so we can enjoy our sovereignty in peace because that was the democratic will of …. oh wait….
