Hello! I am an American who is wanting to marry a Danish citizen (she has been living here her entire life), but, from my understanding, the Danish system makes it very hard to do acquire Danish residency and so I have been looking into marrying into going the EU route and doing the EU family reunification there. I read about the residence card here ([https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/residence/documents-formalities/non-eu-family-members-residence-card/index\_en.htm](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/residence/documents-formalities/non-eu-family-members-residence-card/index_en.htm)) but will this residence card make it easier for me to get residence in Denmark?

  1. Yes. After you get the EU residence card you can freely move to any EU country including Denmark. You will be able to buy property and work too.

  2. It’s by no means impossible to go the Danish route and get family reunification through the Danish rules, but it can be time consuming and it’s expensive. If you and your wife have the possibility of living together in another EU country for about 6 months, it will be dramatically easier for you to get a temporary Danish residency, and you will be on a fast track to obtain permanent residency as well.
