Government on brink of giving NHS staff 5% pay rise

  1. This isnt even anything more than what they were actually going to do eventually anyway. Treasury guidance for the civil service has been up to 4.5% with 0.5% leeway in exceptional circumstances. Nurses have always gotten similar or more than the civil service. This 5% was always the baseline only and should be expected

This isnt a win; this is frankly a loss and Im still amazed that unions across all sectors have refused to cooperate to being about a general strike instead each running off doing their own thing and the leadership of said unions not really caring.

This has been a sad yeat watching unions and their leadership fail.

  2. This is barely more than the annual raise they would have gotten anyway and would still not give them a decent enough wage live on.

  3. That’s still a pay cut because it’s below inflation. Slowing the decline of wages is not a victory. You are still getting poorer.

Refuse to “get used to it” and fight on!

  4. The BBC is a fucking rag at this point.

The headline is atrocious. “On the brink” implying they’re about to give in and give them an enormous 5%. That’s what was offered and rejected, and strikes have continued. They’ve not negotiated, point blank refused in fact, spouted “a fair and reasonable payrise” all over the show, yet they’re now “on the brink” of giving in and forcing upon staff what they’re still striking over.

“Government set to implement 5% below inflation pay increase without negotiation upon NHS staff who are unwilling to accept”.

  5. As someone on benefits due to disability I am very thankful for the 10% rise we got after years and years of real time cuts, however, I am disgusted the government doesn’t pay NHS staff a decent wage. While people like me having a raise is vital for survival of those on the lowest incomes, the NHS staff being able to continue to do their job without excessive financial stress making them sick is vital for everyone. It’s disgusting they got rid of band 1 just so they could get away without raising other bands pay. It sickens me to think even the pandemic wasn’t enough to show how valuable these people are.

  6. Why can companies increase their fees by inflation price index +x% on top. Can I also ask my boss to increase my wage by inflation +x% every year (it never happens)?

  7. That’s a weird way of saying that the gov has been fully on board with enshrining real terms paycuts for the NHS for forever.
