Contactless payments on buses to be trialled from the end of May

  1. Jesus Christ are you all sill fucking about with 50p’ and pockets full of change!?

I haven’t been to Dublin in long time.

  2. Needs to implemented in conjunction with the luas as lots of people tap on for the 90 minute fare and use both bus and luas within that time.

  3. The rest of the world have been using this for a decade, but Dublin think they need to ‘trial’ it

  4. I love this trend of Ireland being nearly 10 years behind the rest of the world with stuff like this, that was introduced in places like London and Tokyo in 2014….

  5. Why bother trailing when it’s already proven to work, just already put it on all Dublin bus/bus Éireann buses and luas ffs

  6. Anyone if contactless is the same as using cash or if it’s just moving the leap card onto the phone? If the former will the rates be higher than leap?

  7. I find getting the bus so stressful for things like this, why does it have to be such an elaborate process for something so simple

  8. Jaysus. The amount of people saying – why do you need to trial it.

Please for the love of god I hope ye have no say in the introduction of IT systems in your workplace.

Once worked somewhere that went the whole shebang overnight with a new system. Within a day it had crashed everything and we were using pen and paper for the next month.

You ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS trial new IT systems.

  9. About fucking time, i can pay for everything else with my phone, but I still have to carry a bloody leap card. Sure in London you can tap on with a Fitbit

  10. If I want to bring the kids on a bus do we need a leap card each?

    Is cash banned now?

    Cries in rural living

  11. This is so slow. How many trials do they need? It’s off the shelf tech. It is just amazing it hasn’t been trialled fully at this stage. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be done but … how long do they need ?!

  12. Great. Saw two tourists totally mystified about how to access a late night bus last night without cash. The bus driver was very kind and let then on anyway rather than leave the two men stranded but I’d say not every one bends the rules and being able to use a card or phone to tap on and off makes great sense by making access to public transport simple.

  13. Amazing how people have been complaining for ages that this isn’t possible, yet when they announce that they are finally bringing it… most of the comments here are negative?

Yes, it’s bad that we didn’t have this until now, but surely us getting it is a good thing?

And of course they’re going to trial it and then roll it out slowly, to make sure the system actually works correctly with our systems here in Ireland. You’d be complaining far more if they just implemented it immediately without testing, and the whole thing broke on the first day.

  14. Would be nice if you were also able to add your Leap card to the wallet/contactless app. I imagine it’ll still be cheaper to pay by Leap card when this rolls out and you’ll still need the Leap card for things like child, student and young adult fares so makes sense to have the ability to put your Leap card on your phone.

  15. Cash is king! It’s all part of the New World Orders plan! – Jonno who drives an SUV and thinks public transport is communism probably.
