Remember this the next time you hear some Russia supporting tankie that Ireland should always be neutral and without a military because sure why would anyone want to attack us anyway?
Wasn’t the hole selling point to build these was the cheaper green energy? Build nuclear instead, that’s cheaper.
Well haven’t we messed around the offshore wind sector for years now?
Inevitably, that’s created a country risk premium. Hence, it’s more expensive here than elsewhere.
And will remain so, until we become a fair and reliable partner.
This sound a like a disaster. The green party artificially raised electricity prices to improve competition in the market, forgetting that the goal was not competition in itself, but value for customers.
Now, with the way they have set up the bizarre nominal pricing for electricity, despite producing all this green energy , the customers end up paying the most expensive price no matter where the electricity is coming from on that day.
This smacks of the sale of the mobile phone spectrum for 3g when we were fleeced that time as well.
I’m all for being green and saving the planet, but why is it that every time Ryan opens his mouth electricity gets more expensive?!
The greens are going to be punished badly next election, putting environmental issues on the back burner for another ten years.
Pay wall is both pay and wall.
Once again the Irish government shows its abject commercial incompetence
Why the fuck do we always sell our most important resources to foreign companies for dirt cheap, and sometimes even give them away!?
Ah yes, more good news, probably selling the total rights to the resources with no options to benefit the Irish people. Countless governments now selling off this countries resources year after year. This country is a fucking joke.
Of course no bribes accepted but you can be sure that the councellors and tds involved will find their way into nice cushty advisory roles and serve on several committees for years to come.
I’m not sure its all that bad. There’s a high upper-limit, which may not be reached, but this will ensure that bids are received and the offshore industry actually starts. Prices can then fall in subsequent auctions due to bidders in subsequent auctions bidding into an established market.

So it seems the actual price was €86. I really don’t get how the Business Post is a business-targetted newspaper given the amount of misunderstanding. https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/locations-of-four-proposed-new-offshore-wind-farms-revealed-amid-9bn-investment-in-wind-energy/a3650047.html
