Pope Francis warns pets must not replace children in Italy

  1. me, holding my two cats, a pupper and constrictor boa: yer a few decades late to start worrying, frank!

  2. Am I heartless if I’ve always felt pets are just a money sink? Dogs are expensive to maintain, you could always use that money for quality of life or invest it.

  3. The pope never had to struggle with raising kids.

Pets don’t steal your car, do drugs or fall into the wrong crowd. And you can “fix” your pets so they don’t have unwanted pregnancies.

The pope wants more customers for the Catholic cut of the religious industry. He wants the Catholic Church to continue a-MASS-ing wealth despite it being the largest owner of land and worth $30B.

Btw the Mormon Church is worth $100B worldwide.

Jesus would be so proud. /s

  4. “Starting a family in Italy is becoming a “titanic effort” that only the rich can afford, Pope Francis has warned.

In his speech in Rome, the Pope said the declining birth rate signalled a lack of hope in the future, with younger generations weighed down by a sense of uncertainty, fragility and precariousness.

“Difficulty in finding a stable job, sky-high rents and insufficient wages are real problems,” he said.”

He’s not completely out of touch and it’s honestly a standard that many of those in power across Europe and the world do not meet.

  5. It doesn’t really matter. People’s expectations of life has vastly changed from 50 years ago. At least for now not having kids doesn’t really negatively impact people’s life. As there is social welfare, careers and just a general focus on waiting for the perfect conditions which counter it. Most folks don’t live in towns with declining populations so it’s hard to see the impact of low fertility rates.

  6. Italy, like japan, has decided to address the problem in the same manner. By getting mad, not solving the problem, and telling the people to do it them selves.

  7. I get that low birth rates are a huge concern but he’s missing the mark. Many of us aren’t having kids because we can’t afford to and don’t have the heart to bring a kid into the world and put them through a hand to mouth existence. If he wants to help us fight the affordability crisis great, otherwise this won’t accomplish much.

  8. “Man sits in golden palace and wonder why people don’t have kids that cost over 200k euros to raise”

  9. Don’t worry Pope I ain’t substituting children with pets; I don’t have time and money to take care of a pet either

  10. One of the most rich organizations on the planet is saying that they know having children is too expensive, but instead of offering money, they just say “please, try anyway!”

  11. A responsible pet owner shouldn’t treat an animal like a human anyway, so he’s partly right, though he says so because he thinks that somehow procreating is like duty we must fulfil in life. This from a man who didn’t procreate or get married
