With 8 billion people on the planet I’m not sure this is such a bad thing.
Afford isn’t the right word here: it’s uneconomical. You‘ll spend a shitload on money on something, that will never provide any direct value in return, not to mention the fact, that one parent will have to hold his carrier for a year or even longer. Since children are an investment into the future, this should be covered by governments.
Here are some broad ideas:
1. Pay the parent who stays at home 100% of the pre-pregnancy income and slowly decrease it, the longer a parent stays at home
2. Guarantee affordable/ free healthcare
3. decrease taxes for parents based on the amount of children to make having children a good investment
If the clergy could have children that would help out the situation
That is what happens when you have authoritarian regimes, central banks that print money, and governments that run sizable deficits. Francis, please actually denounce the governments behind this evil. The government opposes birth. For environmental reasons, “child free” is promoted.
He is really not off-base. Many people do not have the means to support children. The costs of daycare, housing, transportation, education, and even basic expenses like groceries, clothing, heat, and water are very high. If it’s just them, many people cannot afford the cost of living.
It’s starting to be same in Finland as well. Everyting (especially accommodation) is so expensive. As are kids hobbies, etc. Sad in a way…
Not wrong. Also annoyingly accurate for a bunch of Countries in Europe.Apart from diminished career prospects, timely constraints, transportation, possible medical concerns there is expensive childcare.
Not even mentioning possible health hazards from having the child in the first place.
I don’t see how anyone non-wealthy would choose to have Children.
Majority of the world can’t, atleast those that aren’t getting atleast 2k/month, the price hikes gone mad in the past decade for no reason whatsoever and only corporations and rich benefits from it.
I hate conspiracy theories, but shit we are so under their boots it’s no longer crazy to think how much control the 1% and associated people have over the rest of us.
