Germany will provide a new 2.7 billion euro ($2.97 billion)military aid package to Ukraine, the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff said on Saturday.This will include 30 Leopard tanks.

  4. This will make Germany the country that has given the second most aid to Ukraine.

    Edit: apparently Germany already surpassed the UK long ago. This just also means that they surpass them in terms of military aid. Although considering they just gave Ukraine long range cruise missiles the UK is still second in my book.

  5. Sadly these will be Leopard 1s originally built in the 50s and 60s and not the much converted Leopard 2s that are a much more modern and capable design. Don’t get me wrong any tank is better than no tank but let’s be realistic these will not be in the thick of the action, they would most likely be used in reserve units to plug any gaps in the front line.

  7. The only thing that can possibly stop German aid is if the USA stopped its aid. Unlike some other countries, our opposition (CDU) is even more pro-Ukriane than the current party in charge (SPD).

    The German people are very suspicious of getting involved in war, and our government is a slow-moving bureaucracy, but we are very committed to Ukraine and we will follow the lead of the USA as long as Joe Biden remains president.

    Germany will likely widen the gap between it and the other European countries for aid given. Especially because we have a deep stock of Leopards to give.

  8. These amounts of gear they are sending collectively is not enough to change anything.

    The spring offensive is now summer offensive?

    They armed Ukraine for eight years and they’ve used most of that gear and units already. New soldiers have something like 5 weeks of training. That is bad. Better than nothing I guess, but not enough to really know what they’re doing from their spine. When you’re under that amount of constant stress the actions you make must come from spine because thinking straight is extremely hard under that kind of pressure. Live or die. Some are able to do it but some are not and that’s why it is a preferred condition to have enough training like at the bare minimum half a year. They don’t have that kind of time and it will result in losses.

    Also this is an artillery war and a war of attrition. For a year now they’ve been saying that Russia is out of ammo. According to the bombings and shellings of UA live war map kept by Ukrainian goverment, that is simply not true because that shelling and bombing seems to be a daily occurence.

    There was news that west can’t produce enough shells for Ukraine.

    I don’t think that we’re told truth about what is happening because the math just doesn’t add up.

    And what’s up with this unsufficient amounts of gear they’re sending? Is it to just look good or something? Like with this amount off stuff getting Crimea is not going to happen nor taking Donbass. What are the western patreons really doing? What is the goal? It was just announced in my country that the war industry does not have orders anymore. So it seems that they already stopped providing amunnition from here. What is going on?

    The rethoric and actions don’t match.

  9. Leopard 1 tanks……its a important note. Not the modern Leopard 2, but the old already obsolete Leopard 1. Still good of course
