Hello, I was wondering if these jellyfish can be found in the area around Oslo in early july? I know they aren’t the most common jellyfish in Norway and most online records say autumn but wanted to ask some others. Name is kompassmanet in norwegian.

I have never seen one of those in my life…
I hope not.
I have not seen one like that before, grew up on the west coast.
Y u asking bruh? U jelly or just fishing for an answer?
I will see myself out
I know they can be found in Norway, I think my father has seen one once on the west coast sometime during the last 50 years. I’ve spent 20 summers in the Oslo fjord boating, and I’ve never seen one. They are probably not very common at all
You should ask this questions on the Facebook group “Marinbiologene”
Never seenm. In Norway I’ve only seen the blank ones and the orange ones we call brennmanet that sting
No life left in the inner Oslo fjord. Never seen one of those either.
In danish it is the Kompasgople.
They prefer strong salinity which means almost all sightings is on the west coast of Jutland.
They are normal to spot around Løkken, Blokhus, Lønstrup. But never on the east coast because of less salinity. I suspect that is why you can’t find any sightings in the area you are asking about.
I have never seen them in shallow waters or close to land, but they can be found in southern Norway. Seems to be in line with the salinity argument. Less saline water near land and close to surface.
You could check the entries on iNaturalist
As the others have said, I haven’t ever seen one. You might see them if you go scuba diving. The ones I see at work the most are glassmanet(moon jelly), brennmanet(lion’s mane), and amerikansk lobemanet(warty comb jelly). I’m guessing those three are the ones you spot from boats or the shore easiest. From what I can find kompassmanet is quite rare but is spotted around southern Norway every now and then. Seen it once. I was very facinated and looked em up. I thought they were rare because they usually stay deeper underwater, and also not common in the north as they’re just visitors.
Also seen a “Lungemanet” once. They stand out so much since 99.9% of the jellyfish we see are Brennmanet (yellow/red/blue) and Glassmanet, that all look pretty much the same. When you see them you kinda just forget what you’re doing and gotta go check them out.
Wow I was starring at this for 10 minutes thinking it’s on a plate, decorated with chives ready to eat. Here thinking damn kinda looks like a sea mushroom, I wonder what it tastes like.
I realise now that’s not the case, I need some sleep lol
Never seen one in my life. I grew up on the west coast, and have since lived many years on the south coast.
The Wikipedia article for this jellyfish doesn’t even have a Norwegian site. The Swedish one says single individuals occasionally drift to Swedens west coast.
I honestly doubt you will see one in Norway considering how rarely they come to our coast. Probably not impossible, but likely very rare considering it seems that no one who lives along the coast where it might potentially be has heard of it.
I grew up on the ocean both in Kristiansand and up north. I’ve never seen one of these.
Never seen one in the oslo fjord 🤷♀️
