While poorer than West Germany owing to years of stagnation and incompetence under communist rule, East Germany still has Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden. Large cities attract industrial bases that boost GDP. Working night shift in Boston Scientific or finishing beef cattle isn’t going to drive up GDP to beat a country with about two centuries of industrial history and a culture that embraces indigenous industry.
As for the majority of TDs being FFG, isn’t that true of all provinces?
