I absolutely can’t understand all these idiots, who keep calling her anti European, anti western, fascist and so on, when everything that she’s done so far in government shows the complete opposite. She is committed to the E.U. and Nato, supports Ukraine and even delivers weapons and has openly denounced fascism multiple times now. So, what more is she supposed to do?
People in this sub really need to learn how to tell true fascism from populist catering to the hardline right wing sentiments in the population.
Meloni is sleazy, manipulative and says provocative things, but she, like a lot of similar politicians in the West, loves money and power and doesn’t really care about ideologies nearly as much as the voters. And as long as money and power is to be had, they have no problem doing what is required of them. Trump still dropped bombs on the Middle East, Erdogan still halted immigration, Orban still allowed transfer of weapons across their airspace and signed off on sanctions. They just talk shit and reap the benefits. And you as the population either praise them or get triggered by them, further fueling their cult of personality.
Demagogues haven’t changed since Ancient Greece. And not many of them ever turn into despots. They are dangerous because they erode the public discourse and level of competence in the government, but they don’t really organize secret police and death camps.
