Almost as if the anglophone media’s lies about it not being very good aren’t related to reality.
Hmm, yes. I suppose bribery from a certain country that’s name starts with “Qu-” and ends with “-atar” helped a bit?
(Quatar bought french Rafaels in exchange for being allowed to organise world-cup).
Edit. Lmao, french nationalists having hard time to accept unplesant truth.
When Stalin invaded Finland in 1939, France donated 50 Morane Saulnier(MS) 406s airplanes to Finland in 105 days of Winter War.

Finnish Ilmavoimat Ferry pilots (mostly women) flew the planes from Sweden to Finland with the aircraft already painted with Finnish national markings.
Greece, besides signing the very ambitious defense agreement with France, bought a few of those. Feedback coming from the Air Force is great. Let’s keep on building together. Next stop. The FDIs.

So, very good for France, Nato needs versatility incase an opposition ever found a strategic weakness in certain military equipment. But if you read the article the F35 is selling twice as many, unless I misunderstood.
I mean it’s about what is on the market right?
The Gripen is said to be the low cost fighter jet, not bad but not amazing.
The Eurofighter is supposedly mid tier. Good enough for most missions but that’s it.
You have the russian fighter jets which probably won’t find many buyers these days because their electronic warfare codes were exposed as a result of the war in Ukraine.
And you have the Rafale and F-35 which are supposedly the high end. One is ludicrously overpriced and barely flies, the other one is simply overpriced and has shown it can fly over 20 years. The french are also prepared to sell it to more people than the americans. Seeing as the (formerly thought to be best in the world) russian anti air defence turns out to be swiss cheese tier, there really isn’t much of a case for the F-35 unless you’re in NATO and want to please the americans.
What a surprise, US media using misleading headlines to misinform… 20 year old French fighter… Well, the F-22 is an 18 year old US fighter aircraft (it was introduced in 2005), so it’s not like either of them are newly introduced.
And there are other explanations. The F-22 cannot be sold to any other country than the US, hence the only options are the F-35 or aging F-16’S. The sale price of the F-22 is about 80 million dollars, while the Rafale C is cheaper and doesn’t have the restrictions that the US imposes on the F-35
On the techical side, it has been shown that the Rafale can outperform the F-22 in a dogfight, so no surprises here.
Well, first of all, while the Rafale may be 20-year-old (in fact, rather 30-year old), most of the competition (F-15, F-16, F-18, Eurofighter, Gripen and the various derivatives of MiG-29 and Su-27) is just as old or even older (the F-15, 16 and 18 all go back to the 1970s!). The only more recent all-new designs currently competing with it in international markets are the F-35 and the Chinese J-10 (but the latter got a lot of…hmm… “inspiration” from the abandoned Israeli IAI Lavi, which predates the Rafale).
Also, the Rafale, like all of its competitors, has been subject to constant updates since its launch, and its equipment no longer has much in common with that 20 or 30 years ago.
Cool. Cool. Mirage for Ukraine ! 🇨🇵🇺🇦
Yes I know there is no link with this article.
The title is a bit weird – 20 years may sound a lot but is actually quite recent design as far as military hardware goes. For comparison, the F-22 was introduced in service just 4 years later and most 4th generation aircraft are late 70s early 80s design.
And, the Rafale is also one of the most capable 4th generation fighters. It has excellent electronics, very capable AESA radar, an excellent electronic warfare platform (SPECTRA), a very capable targeting pod (Damocles) and diverse range of weapons (including one of the best long range air to air missiles and the storm shadow cruise missile).
It’s a good fighter for a country that can’t buy (can’t afford or won’t be allowed to buy) F35.
Yes, because its a fantastic multirole aircraft, duh!
Considering that the Rafale F4 is literally just 4 years old this is an absolute shitty and butthurt title.
Try harder Lockheed Martin lol
Good days for Dassault.
20 years is not old at all when it comes to fighter jets. the original F16 and F15 models is from the 70s.
Probably because you have the right to repair it and it doesn’t come with subscription services.
its also because france would sell them to anyone, they don’t care who it is, they just need the money
Price?
Its the best alternative for those that can’t afford the F-35 (or nations USA isn’t willing to sell too). Since the Eurofighter isn’t really multirole and has many issues, and Russian planes are out of the question now.
They were also going to sell Rafales to Colombia but the deal fell apart last minute.
Support the cause!! Buy 3..and Ukraine gets one for free!
The age doesn’t matter. These plane models are constantly being upgraded with the latest avionics.
>France’s share of global arms exports increased to 11% in the five-year period that ended in 2022, up from 7.1% in the five years ending in 2017, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, or Sipri, a think tank. France is now the third-biggest arms exporter behind the U.S. and Russia, Sipri data shows.
I hope soon Russia drops out of its second place while France eats its lunch.
The Rafale is one of the most beautiful jet designs out there. If my country couldn’t produce their own fighter bombers, this would be at the top of the list due to cost/performance/capability. I do believe it also has a low cost/hour to operate. Most people don’t realize how poor our American jets are on this metric.
the abandoned Israeli IAI Lavi, which predates the Rafale.
Fick wsj and other Murdoch media
The frame is 20y old. Everything else keep getting upgraded. And while not stealthy it is an excellent plane with a low TCO relative to its non stealthy peers.
