FYI 12,000 nanograms per litre quoted in the article = 12 micrograms per litre or 0.012 mg/l (ppm).
The environment secretary has already said she, “doesn’t give a shit” about river pollution and has given polluters over half a century to clean up their act. She is one of Sunak’s many gold standard ministers, the Tories have such a breadth and depth of talent it must have been a difficult choice for him.
They’re murdering us. When will people start understanding that?
When profit is King, its not moral or ethical to spend profit on doing the right thing that eats into that glorious profit.
This is so unbelievably fucked up, this is like Mr Burns level of evil shit the Tories have done by letting companies dump these chemicals in to the rivers.
I think we need to remap our brains and instead just make a broad assumption that every aspect of this country is in terminal decline and publish articles on the few glimmers of hope which remain. EVERY day I am reading how this current bunch of crooks of a government have facilitated untold harm to out country. I sincerely hope this firm is fined to the extent that it ceases to exist.
Causes sexual and fertility problems.
Seems like the handmaid’s tale might not be so far off…

It really wasn’t a good idea to trust that water companies could regulate themselves.
They don’t own these rivers. We do. Why do we let them get away with this?
When everyone has cancer at the age of 10 they won’t care either. It’ll be the new normal.
These companies and the Tories should be forced to drink it.
“This should not be at the detriment to industry, but…”
The reason humanity is running itself off a cliff to extinction. The pure insanity of money worship. Even in this article, it’s not even fathomable that the production of harmful industries should slow down. No way am I having kids
These is what extremism looks like.
In this case it is extremist capitalism.
Extremism in anything Is bad be it religion or otherwise.
However capitalist and free market extremism where profit is worshipped has no bounds.
Remember kids, chemicals aren’t just for Christmas.
If it’s any consolation, 800kg in miles of water, possibly hundreds of millions kg is nothing. It’s like a half of a drop in an Olympic size swimming pool
they’ve been doing it to my town of Wilmington NC USA for years, only just came out about it about 4 years ago, the only thing that happened to Chemours was they gota light wrist slap, they said “we’ll really try to stop doing that, even though we were never told we couldn’t” and then they built a new water treatment plant on the taxpayers dime.
There needs to be a global environment body that has the authority to fine countries billions if they dont hold the most basic of regulations to hold companies accountable.
We’re already fucked.
Every living thing on the planet contains forever chemicals.
Surely this is a criminal offense, where we should be arresting and charging the directors of the company responsible?
Maybe the people running this firm need to be released into the river, with concrete shoes.
I think we need a better standard for not pouring shit in rivers above and beyond “nobody said I couldn’t”. There is no standard for basic decency, just dumping your shit in the common space of the land.
Man, future generations are going to wonder why we all comfortably sat around on our butts when a small handful of people poisoned the water we drink, contaminated the land, and destroyed the planet
It’s amazing how often when companies are left to self govern they don’t do it. Almost like pollution is way more profitable in the short term.
Yet Brits will do nothing and keep voting for their demise.
As long as a company is making money and donating a bit to the Tories it’s absolutely fine. Shit in the sea, poison in the rivers, dead bees, when it finally goes tits up the lot of them will be in an elite compound somewhere polishing their gold bars.
There’s never been such a bunch of greedy soulless ghouls in power, it started with Thatcher and shows no sign of stopping.
We need to encourage all businesses to reduce chemical usage period. Businesses over a certain size should be forced to audit their chemical usage and draw a 5 year reduction plan or state why they cant
I’m all in favour of Tory ministers being strapped to a chair and force fed this effluent. If they think there’s nothing wrong with it being dumped into rivers they should be forced to drink it.
“We have fucked up the entire ecosystem, but for a beautiful moment in time we created an amazing profit for the company.”

Anyone even remotely surprised to learn that the MP for this area, Paul Maynard, is a Tory?
Tories: We could stop this and prevent needless sickness and deaths, but we couldn’t live with ourselves if we harmed their profit margins.
