In response to the negative and generally ignorant comments in this thread, it’s important to remember that this development pattern is the result of Partition. Keep in mind that Delhi was the capital of the Mughal Empire and the populace was broadly speaking muslim urdu-speakers. Then Partition happened and the greatest migration in human history followed, which included the flight of long-established muslim families from Delhi to Lahore and elsewhere, and in the reverse direction, the transplantation of Hindu families from what is now Pakistan to Delhi. These people fled their ancestral lands with only the things they could carry and encamped on the outskirts of Delhi, where they remain.
Imagine if the entire population of Paris suddenly got up and walked to Berlin, and vice versa (also harassing and killing each other as they passed) what do you think those cities would look like afterwards?
The next great flood will have come by 2050 or not too long after. So you needn’t bother yourself with town planning.
It doesn’t need to be that bad before things are bad.
Malta isn’t getting nearly enough attention to reach this level of development, and certainly not by 2050.
