Nuclear power helps bring down electricity prices by 75% in Finland

  1. Misleading title:

“Average spot electricity prices in the country fell to €60.55 ($65.69) per megawatt hour in April from €245.98 per megawatt hour in December”

So the price decreased during the time before the plant started operation.

  2. ITT: people who don’t know what the word “helps” means.

Yes, gas prices went down. Yes, electricity prices in the EU are linked to gas prices.

But having 1.6 GW of stable electricity come online also helps keep prices down.

Finland will especially appreciate this when winter comes. And it was a shame the plant didn’t come online before winter.

  3. The WORLD NUCLEAR WASTE REPORT (WNWR) shows that governments around the world have
been struggling for decades to develop and implement comprehensive nuclear waste management strat-
egies. Much of the task will fall onto future generations.
    WASTE MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS
More than 70 years after the start of the nuclear age, no country in the world has
a deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel in operation. Finland is the only
country that is currently constructing a permanent repository for this most dangerous
    type of nuclear waste.
