I’m so busy down on the farm I won’t have much time for the ol’ monarchy
And they’re all going to wear huge, bulked out trench coats in case the weather’s bad.
It stands to reason, they’re likely to become the next political party in power in Ireland because the Labour Party and the greens are a disaster. SF really have to kick the stain of the IRA but honestly that’s going to be very difficult for most Irish and British people to accept, but gestures like this will make some progress towards it.
That being said they need to do far more excising of suspect or undesirable members at the local level in Ireland and the north before people will really believe them.
It’s been amusing to watch the reaction to this. Hard to tell who’s more upset – the more traditional Sinn Féin supporters, or the hardline ulster loyalists.
I find the contortions among the Republicans about this to be hilarious. To me, there’s an entirely pragmatic solution in line with their political doctrine: they’re attending the coronation of a foreign King. Just like other official attendees from the USA, Netherlands, Thailand, Italy, etc.
That’s how to square “being polite in politics” with “We’re Not British”.
Will they be taking up thier seats in Parliament next….
The SF PIRA scuttters spent enough years taking the shilling so it makes sense to pay it back.
EG Stakeknife, Denis Donaldson to name but two.
Blew up his great uncle, no?! “Just don’t bring up anything in conversation about boating or suitcases full of cash and you’ll be fine. Or ‘conservation’, Jesus Christ! He’ll talk yer feckin’ ears off.”
Do you think she will swear allegiance to old sausage fingers.
