Schweizer fliegen am meisten im Privatjet

  1. Money quote:

    >Ein Privatjet belastet das Klima in nur drei Flugstunden gleich stark wie die Gesamtemissionen eines Durchschnittsschweizers oder einer Durchschnittsschweizerin eines ganzen Jahres.

This sh*t must come to an end. It’s pointless to live in 18°C flats as our dear leaders suggested and to [shower together](https://www.nau.ch/politik/bundeshaus/simonetta-sommaruga-zu-zweit-duschen-spart-auch-energie-66265005) while the rich a**holes waste as much energy as whole towns.

  3. I call BS, I say they did like a statistic of Private Jets landing in Switzerland (WEF Bastards etc) and counted it towards Switzerland

  4. I’m not so sure about the methodology here.

According to the methodological summary, this isn’t about “Schweizer” at all, but about landings and take-offs in Switzerland. It might well include, for example, UN-related traffic in Geneva, the WEF, and REGA emergency jets.

    > CE Delft has built a database for this project which contains information on all private flights departing from and arriving in the EU27 countries including Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, disaggregated by year, route and aircraft type, and the CO2 emissions for each flight. The flight data have been provided by CIRIUM1 and **include all private/ business flight operations departing from and arriving in European countries**. Flights with aircraft with less than three seats have been excluded from the analysis, as well as flights to and from airports without an IATA code, and flights that arrive at the same airport as they have departed from. […] **The flight data include medical or military flights, as long as these flights were executed with aircraft typically used in business aviation.**

The summary for Switzerland shows a gargantuan increase in the space of two years which makes me suspect a change in the way flights are being counted (but of course it might also be a legitimate increase, maybe related to the pandemic):

    > Private flights departing from Switzerland have **increased from 7,890 flights in 2020 to 35,269 flights in 2022**, and the CO2 emissions have increased from 24,949 tonnes in 2020 to 166.012 tonnes in 2022. The most used airport for private aviation for all years was Geneva Airport (LSGG), from which 14,582 private flights departed in 2022.

  5. I also find private jets pretty dumb and I truly don‘t understand why our Bundesrat needs its own private jet (they actually might even have multiple ones). Sell the jet and let them take economy class. You save money and do good for the environment.

  6. The number of super rich is so tiny that just by sheer volume our contribution is still impactful and we shouldn’t stop being mindful where we can (and as should they!)

  7. For those that think this is a non problem airplanes still use lead in their fuel that has been banned from cars and motorcycles because it has been proven that ampers brain developement in children , its extremely toxic ,cancer , a fleet off cars will do less damage compared to a single jet private plane, just google it..

  8. Es isch no keine uf d Idee cho uf d Emissione vo DJs/Artiste zluege. Oft händ die täglich Flüg vo eim Gig zum andere nur und im Summer sogar mehrmols täglich.

  9. Wow, it must be nice to be a Swiss millionaire and jet-set around in your own private jet! I can only dream of such luxuries. But seriously, it’s not surprising that the Swiss fly the most in private jets considering their country’s reputation for wealth and extravagance. Maybe someday I’ll get a chance to fly in one myself, but for now, I’ll stick to commercial flights and save up for my own private jet…someday.

  10. Grusig. Mine meinig nach sött niemer sooo rich si dass mer sich en privatjet oder e yacht chönnt leiste während anderi um existenz bettlet
