Just listened to Fernand Kartheiser advocating for mandatory Luxembourgish in the health sector in order to eliminate misunderstandings and patient anxiety in critical situations due to the linguistic barrier [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMKRBuOcq04](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMKRBuOcq04)
Could anyone please clarify in what work sectors knowing Luxembourgish is actually required? It appears to me (both from the clip and from having visited once) that even for essential everyday matters, the natives routinely have to use French as workers aren’t even expected to learn Luxembourgish.

Police, education and army
Pretty much all public facing jobs in administrations.
PS: In an ideal world, doctors and nurses would all talk their patients’ languages. Given the general lack of doctors/nurses, Luxembourg can’t be choosers. At the end of the day a French speaking doctor will be preferable to no doctor. But I’m sure the ADR knows a place where medical professionals that speak Luxembourgish grow on trees.
is there anyone who only speaks luxembourgish ?
