The police advice not to leave the vehicle documents inside the vehicle is not useful. If I had to take them with me every time I park the car somewhere I would definitely lose or forget them. If they want this to be done, then put everything (tax information, insurance and registration) onto one credit card sized electronic store card that fits my wallet.
