Guzelyurt is post 1974, there were not many TCs before, majority that moved there were initially TC refugees from south including my family from Limassol. But later on a big part of TCs that moved there moved towards nicosia and only elders remain. The rest is filled with turkish settlers now.
We still use Omorfo by the way. Only a few stupid retard use “güzelyurt”. It is only in legal documents.
my friends from güzelyurt still call it omorfo
“Güzelyurt” is like “Gazimağusa” or “Beylerbeyi”, you’ll rarely hear it in day to day life
Nearly every local uses ‘Omorfo’ instead.
Not a TC, but a friend of mine is from Morphou on his mother’s side of the family, and his grandfather crosses the Astromeritis checkpoint often to visit. His TC friends there (who are equally old) call it “Tumorfu” because the common expression when expressing being from there or going there is/was “του Μόρφου” (e.g. “είμαι που του Μόρφου” = I’m from Morphou). That being said they are conversing in Greek, so I’m not sure if it’s common overall or not.
We use the name Omorfo most of the time
And also we have a bank an some kind of co-op office named as okal koop ( Omorfo kalkınma kooperatifi)
( Morphou development cooperative)
and we have olko birlik ‘omorfo – lefke katılım ortaklığı’ and these cooperations started after 1974.
TCs correct me if I’m wrong.
