They only give out token referendums as i said before that don’t really effect people like the blasphemy, the upcoming women in the home one(We all agree that everyone should be treated equally) We’re all for this and it’ll pass and they know it but when it comes to issues like the free speech or having our water privatised they hold off.
The right is on the right because of the incompetent of FFFG ~ hate speech laws like this one are just oil to that fire. That’s how you create underground terror organisations. 😉

Am I crazy though but the first I heard of this legislation was through reddit and the only storm I’ve seen is from right wing media outside of Ireland. I don’t think a single person in “real life” has mentioned them

While I don’t disagree with what they’re trying to stop, it’s hard to not think this is a slippery slope. I feel like doing this also isn’t actually solving the problem it’s just driving it off public social medias.
Absolutely disgusting legislation that has been abused countless of times in both Scotland and England
This is happening all over the world, it’s hilarious it’s as if the media and politicians think we are going to take their job away from them.
Wonder how long before the perpetually offended snowflakes will descend here on r/Ireland looking to feed once these laws come into force.
Landlords to get protected status and it’ll soon be illegal to call them greedy wankers.
I don’t think you need to be of any particular political belief to note that there is a problem with a government trying to ban hate speech when it is usually unable to give a definition of hate that isn’t overly subjective or lacking in a self-limiting principle.
I didn’t realise this was such a big issue here. I thought us Irish were generally welcoming of immigrants.
These new laws are annoying all the right people, and I’m delighted about it. Possibly the best indicator that it’s a good move.
If Trump or Putin was bringing something like this in they’d be severely criticised.
