Redditors of Lux, please sign and share! This practice is archaic and harmful. Let’s make Luxembourg safer for girls and women.
From the petition:
For some time now, we have been regularly confronted with cases of young girls, minors and adults, who ask for help because their families force them to submit to a virginity test, for various reasons. Some families want annual proof that their daughter is still a virgin, and others because the girl has fallen in love and a boyfriend, but most because often the family has heard rumors about their child. What emerges is that it is always a question of questioning the behavior of girls and not that of boys, which underlines the discriminatory nature of this practice. The girls are put under pressure by their families on the one hand, but they are also sometimes at the mercy of other young people who harass them about this. Although many girls do not or no longer agree to undergo this type of test, they find it impossible to refuse them under penalty of reprisals. Other countries such as France or Great Britain have already enacted laws that authorize girls by prohibiting the issuance of virginity certificates.

Luxembourg isn’t doing this, so the petition is pretty useless. And it took only one moment to google it, to find this out.
Wtf
I have no idea why I am getting downvoted for this (and mildly horrified tbh). This is not my petition, but I support it because of the impact on women and girls.
Here is the motivation from the petitioner:

Fix the cause, not the symptom…
