Museum workers describe the children’s shoes as one of the most emotional testaments of the crimes carried out at Auschwitz.
I’ve seen these, it *is* horrific.
I’ve been to the site a few times. The shoes are often the most impactful thing for people. There is something deeply personal/human about them.
And many people view this as a long ago thing or the general idea- but children’s shoes- or any shoes- show how recent and real it truly is.
Don’t know how people had the heart to do such a heinous act. Like imagine killing or help killing 8000 kids and then thinking how somehow your country isn’t utterly evil
