>Sharp says the breach was “inadvertent”, as a report finds that he broke appointment rules by not fully disclosing his role in a loan for Boris Johnson
Yes yes, “inadvertently” forgot to disclose that little niggle.
Right thing to do, he shoul have resigned the day the Boris Johnson loan story surfaced.
> Sharp continued: “Indeed, I have always maintained the breach was inadvertent and not material, which the facts he lays out substantiate.”
> Nevertheless, Sharp said he was resigning to “prioritise the interests of the BBC”.
The now standard “I did nothing wrong but I’m resigning anyway because reasons”
Ah another case of “sorry not sorry”. No doubt he’ll passionately defend himself, but only because he was caught. Christ, the state of our governance is screwed.
> During his conversation with Case, he says: “I reminded him of the fact that I was in the BBC appointment process.
> “I believed, as a result of that conversation, that I had been removed from any conflict or perception of conflict.
What’s this, the “no homo” of financial corruption?
Very, very good! He should have resigned the day the story broke.
Great! Now maybe we can have an apolitical chairman who is invested in the BBC’s impartiality, rather than one who’s invested in the current government?
No? Ok then.
*Lineker firestorm may have spelled end for Sharp*
Not the massive dodgy loan he arranged for the clown in return for the job then?
Great but obviously should have never been appointed in the first place.
I find it ridiculous that the government of the day gets to appoint the BBC chairman and so long as this continues the BBC cannot be taken seriously as an impartial “public service broadcaster.”
Some good news to start the weekend off.
I’ll take that thankyou!
Have to wonder how long Simon Case can last – already had to excuse himself from Partygate and now he gets named again in this. Suggestion too that he blocked Sue Gray for personal reasons and indirectly led to her applying for the Labour staff job.
Senior staff at the BBC all need investigating to root this political bias shit out. This is state newsmedia and it’s just not good enough to have those in charge all somehow political backers of the Government. Same with the regulators. The conservatives had done this to them as well.
It will not return my trust in the BBC as being impartial. Once that trust is lost it is difficult to get back.
I’m absolutely shocked that a member of the establishment is facing consequences for their actions, this doesn’t feel like the Britain I know.
Breaking news: Nadine Dorries becomes chairperson of BBC
Richard Sharp has resigned! Another of those crooks out! Another reminder of the corruption of Boris Johnson! The process really needs reform. As does the BBC in general. Anyway, good BBC news!
So as per the article, there were two “conflicts of interest”:
“The second involves him informing Johnson that he was going to introduce Cabinet Secretary Simon case to a Canadian millionaire who wanted to help him with his finances.”
What possible legitimate reason could there be for some random Canadian millionaire to want to reach out to a cabinet minister he’s never even met before because he “wants to help him with his finances”??
How is that not blatant corruption???
A week doesn’t go by where I don’t hear about some Tory goon being forced to resign for corruption, bullying or sexual misconduct
Now there needs to be a criminal prosecution looking into bribery and corruption charges.
It’s proves what we all know…the bbc is a pro Tory machine that reports a version of the news. Yes sharpe has gone, but still has the likes of gibb and davie there. This needs a mega overhaul of the bbc not a “well one wrongun sneaked through” excuse
Will be interesting to know if this does anything to drop the scales from some peoples eyes about the BBC being run by “lefties” or even “communists” if you listen to the psychopaths who comment on right wing new sources.
Maybe those lot are too far gone, but hopefully more people in the middle will realise the BBC isn’t the left wing haven out right wing media purport it to be for *some* reason….
It’s funny how the ‘party of personal responsibility’ always has an excuse when caught.
Inadvertent? Who hasn’t accidently arranged loans for politicians before getting a political appointment?
The number of investigations into Boris Johnson and his appointments and policies is truly staggering. Never before have we had such a venile but corrupt leader.
Everyone is talking about the loan (and rightly so), but forgetting that he was a Tory party donor, given the state media job by the Tory party and then arguably won them an election with the anti-corbyn shite. His job was done.
Choosing trustees and board members should be free of govt interference is the right answer. Will Labour do it if they win? Probably not since they would be under scrutiny themselves.
There goes another corrupt Tory flunkie. They seem to have an endless supply of self-serving jobsworths to stick into inappropriate roles.
Will just replace him with another Tory. System is broken.
Careful what you ask for, the way things are going someone like Suella Braverman will be brought in…
An old friend of mine who I parted ways with last month due to political differences told me that Linekar was a piece of shit, woke liberal etc. I told him that the BBC was hypocrical and that Sharp will have to resign. He wasn’t interested in what I had to say on that.
I wonder what he and other right wingers think about today’s news? A liberal witch-hunt perhaps?
10 February 2021.
That’s when he started in the role.
So the rule is apparently that if you are unfit to be appointed then you only get to stay in the role for a little over 2 FUCKING YEARS!
Good, he was nothing more than a Tory, nonce, fuck-boy any ways. 🖕
Well that’s a stab in the eye to the Torification process that’s been going on for the last few years at the BBC.
BBC News started running Daily Mail style clickbait headlines a few years back.
Then they started headlines with question marks at the end.
The Tories have been moaning for years that the BBC was left-leaning, when in actual fact it was doing it’s best to maintain high standards of impartiality and honest reporting.
I think it was the honest reporting they really hated.
“If want to stay in power we’re going to have to control the narrative” pretty much sums up their approach. So, best thing was to make sure that the Chairman is one of theirs!
That done, Bojo finds himself short of cash and thinks “Bugger me, old Sharpie owes a favour, He’s the man to get me bunced up! Phwoar!”
And then it all unravels. But just wait and see who Sunak replaces him with.
I swear these bastards are as bad as the Republicans over the pond.
We still don’t even know who lent the £800,000 to Johnson.
Depending on which institution they’re more keen to destroy can they put Liz Truss in charge at the Beeb? Or are they saving her to run the NHS?
it’s alright people he’s just off to Spain to fight the french with the yorkshire rifle regiment
Boris is political Ebola now, get these Tories out they are a menace to our democracy and sensibilities
The real question is, what favours did Johnson do for Sharp to earn this grubby loan?
