So thats 2 unions to 1 to reject with GMB still not come in. What happens if its 2-2?
Okay so that’s Steve’s trump card gone, this is looking extremely worrying for the NHS now. Nurses, doctors, utility staff and soon maybe consultants all striking is going to cripple the very thing society takes for granted most. I don’t blame these people in the slightest, we need to fundementally and drastically rebalance society towards valuing professions who work hard, take responsibility and require a level of skills 90% of the population cannot accomplish. Enough of the financial services rewarding themselves in a never ending circle jerk that ultimately culminates in a budget breaking bail out.
I just fear we’ve alienated these NHS staff way too far and they don’t agree to anything less than what they’re worth – if we paid even 50% of their earning potential as compared to oversees health systems then it’s going to lead to potentially the biggest and fastest transfer of wealth we’ve ever seen and the country just isn’t equipped for that without some radical and deep soul searching which I do not trust the average person to have.
Everyone’s forgotten how it was the NHS who carried on nonplussed during the worst pandemic in a life time, with no ppe and no vaccine whilst their colleuges literally died around them. I think this is the reckoning coming because they clearly have not and everyone I’ve spoken to is extremely angry.
They rejected it 52% against, with 48% in favour, which, as we know, is an overwhelming landslide of a majority.
Oh well
Let the middle class cry
The working class have been forced to pay for the middle classes expensive wages for generations
I dont know what to make it, but the GMB have voted to accept the offer. This makes a mockery what the Govt is doing to people. A 5% rise is nothing…. It feels like the outcome of the next GE will be similar….. i think people have given up in the UK. We dont protest or strike like the French and are continually distancing ourselves from failures of Govt.
We had a meeting about the potential offer and I’m glad it was rejected, everyone else was offered a lump sum and a 10% pay rise and everyone in my band was offered 5%
The 52 percent of Unite and 44 percent of GMB come join the RCN.
Slightly off topic but I have a question about pay and inflation.
It seems to me that in the 60s you could generally support a household on one wage, since then inflation has been increasing greater than wages leaving us with a situation where even with two professionals working in a household money is still tight, house prices are beyond the reach of many while the renters pay more in rent than they would in mortgage payments but still don’t qualify to buy their own house.
How have we allowed this to happen? it seems capitalism has completely destroyed us while companies and the 1% have more money than ever before.
I’m no expert and these are most likely naive and uneducated comments.
