Perhaps the government should have looked for a derogation from hosting so many Ukrainian refugees in exchange for funding a few billion worth of anti air materiel.
Instead we’re spending far more per head than most countries on housing, while having failed to provide any military aid, when military aid would protect far more Ukrainians.
Sure i thought its not safe, unless its a massive country that you could just move to the other end of🤔
Perfect take them in in good will and the public gets to pay to get them to leave and the government award themselves a pay rise for doing such a good job.
For anyone who too lazy to read the article, this is after protection order ends, not now.
> The Government is to explore paying social welfare to Ukrainians as a way of encouraging them to return home when the temporary protection directive ends.
Government considers a lot of things – the most out there get picked up for clickbait headlines to agitate the already agitated about de foreigners
“The EU Commission has said it will engage in discussions with all members on how best to exit temporary protection, and it is understood the Department of Justice believes it should wait for further input from the commission before deciding the most appropriate response.”
Here’s a few quid, now piss off back to your war zone. We’ve some corruption issues to focus on hiding.
Basically..
We’ve taken in more refugees (per population size of ireland) than most other EU countries and yet we’re still being pressured to join nato and spend millions on military equipment. Of course having access to the single market is essential for our economy but i’m definitely euro skeptical. Fuck nato. One of nato founding members invaded and occupies this country to this day.
Why would we want them to leave when we’ve full employment?
They’ll probably leave on their own anyway because temporary accommodation sucks unless their own homes in Ukraine have been destroyed.
Wha abou me dole?
As they say, prevention is key. What was the point of taking in more that could be safely housed / given access to services?
This actually makes sense if there’s Ukrainians who are ready to return home, but lack of cash is a barrier to them returning.
If continuing whatever assistance they are getting in ireland would help get them back on their feet in Ukraine for the first 6 months or whatever it’s at least money going directly to individuals.
Could we not encourage Ukrainian builders to move/stay here and help us fix our housing crisis?
I live in a small town in the West and there’s way too many Ukrainians here for such a small place. However, the owners of the accommodation are very honest and say they’re only doing it because of the money they get from the government. There’s a women from Belarus that’s been living here for years that speaks to them and translates for them when they’re in shops and she said that they told her that they’re coming to Ireland because its a great country and they get everything! They also asked her if people could come from Turkey and get houses!
“A recent survey carried out by Ukrainian Action in Ireland found that among beneficiaries of temporary protection in Ireland, 41 per cent have decided to stay permanently in Ireland, 32 per cent are unsure of their plans, and 24 per cent intend to return to Ukraine as soon as they can”
41% have decided to stay permanently in Ireland?
They currently have no right to stay permanently so that’s a strange quote.
41% ‘would like to stay permanently’ would be more accurate.
I’m sure the government will facilitate allowing at least some to stay, particularly if they are working.
“I’m going to pay you 100 bucks to f### off”
I think we should keep the Ukrainians who want to work and contribute and send the scrotes over instead.
