Umm, free speech is no longer a British right, who knew…
>The environmental activist Marcus Decker has been warned he will lose all privileges if he talks to the media from prison, where he is serving one of the longest sentences ever passed for a non-violent protest in British history.
>
>Four days into his jail term, Decker was visited by prison officials and told to remain silent, according to his partner. The warning came as lawyers for Decker consider an appeal against his sentence of two years and seven months for causing a public nuisance with his direct-action protest.
If true that sounds remarkably authoritarian. Whether you agree with his actions or not he has the right to speak to the media without penalty.
Regardless if you agree or not with his protest attempts to intimidate people like this should be 100% opposed by everyone.
This is chilling, and even if you don’t support this protestor’s cause, you probably don’t want to live in a system where this is seen as OK.
I think ‘Free Marcus Decker’ is just as legitimate as ‘Free Julian Assange’ or even [‘Free Nelson Mandela’](https://youtu.be/tJ6kqBOZWBw).
The principle is the exact same.
The guy’s a political prisoner being silenced by the state. Free him.
Seems like the government is genuinely worried that this sort of thing will take off and are trying hard to suppress it.
Over 6200 cases in the court’s backlog but these are given a priority.
Are they protecting their fossil fuel buddies or just actually scared we’ll hold them to account for future climate disasters?
Amazing how the same people who will bluster about government authoritarianism over removing golliwog dolls or fining racists will turn around and support wide ranging anti-protest laws effectively making it illegal because someone was late to work
I wonder what people will do when every single form of peaceful protest comes with a several year prison sentence, probably give up and go home
And the flag shaggers say we don’t have a fascist government
Current sentencing is a joke, how often do we see violent offenders skip a custodial. But someone climbing a fucking bridge must be made an example of.
The British have become leashed and collared like dogs.
We are suppressed by the likes of these tory pig fuckers and a legal system bent to their will.
