How much did your wedding cost? Ours was less than 5k in Dub 7 years ago. Small ceremony in registry office with 10 people, followed by a 3-course meal with wine. Same day we had an evening party with another 80 people, food and prosecco reception. Could it be done today anywhere as cheap?

You bought finger food for 60 people to cater for 80 people?
Right.
Multiples of what you paid unfortunately. Had a great day and it was worth every penny though
Haven’t yet, but fair play to you, I’m always more impressed when people take the risk to actually do it different, and smaller, takes more neck to do it that way then to spend 30k doing it!
Would you have done anything in particular different?
Did you wear clothes that you already owned? You’d barely get 1 night’s accommodation for 450 now.
Mine was €16,805 excluding thank you cards.
Food and drink was <€6k total. We had 90 people at it.
The band and DJ was the most expensive part outside of food at €2600.
Photographer €1800.
Clothes, transport, hair and makeup, transport, printing and postage of invitations, accomodation, wedding rings, celebrant contribution and gifts made up most of the rest.
We did it for six grand in 2021, rented a glamping place that had a main hall,a friend decorated it with lights and flowers, family paid for the car as our gift,an old model t looking car, catering was 1800 i think,100 people were there, no kicking out time or last orders as the place was ours for the weekend, rings were 7-800 mates rates from a jeweller friend, suit was rented shoes were 18 from tesco,we had a bonfire out the front, people out all night chatting and enjoying the fire, band was made up of my friends as i play guitar in a few bands including wedding bands, think the wifes dress was 500ish? Anyway after all was done it was six grand and we had two grand to put away so it worked out deadly
The whole wedding industry is centred on price gouging.
In 2018, we did a wedding for 120 people 5 course dinner, pig on spit for the afters as well as finger food night before wwdding for 40 people and day after wedding for 70 people with band, dj, and music at drinks reception and photobooth for 8500. Langtons did brilliant packages, and I’m sure they still do. My mom bought my dress for 800 and in-laws rented the groomsmen suits. Brother in law did photos, and family friend did the flowers (just bouquets and button holes). The hotel provided everything else.
Ours was in 2005, it was the loveliest thing and we will never regret what we spent on it. Imagining what would it cost if we were to get married now though… that would be a horrifying number
Married in COVID. Me, wife, photographer and two witnesses. Bought all the gear online, paid the fees and got hair done by friends of ours on the cheap. Had the lads back to the gaf for a takeaway. Everybody gone by 5:30. All in all, still cost the guts of 1000 quid. Best day of your life doesn’t have to be expensive.
It’s scary 200euro in a card from a couple won’t cover the dinner and reception for a lot of venues now.
We are doing a small wedding 20 people max and hotel alone is €4K. Most hotels needed a minimum people of 30 or 40 so ruled out a lot of places.
