Random observation. In Spain, solar + wind have provided almost 50% of the electricity consumption for (not yet complete) 2023. Thereby, Spain has surpassed Denmark, Germany, and all other countries in the world in terms of green energy implementation

Funnily enough I still pay “tope de gas” when my company doesn’t use gas to make electricity. Oh boy
Sadly, it would have happened years before, but the former goverment didn’t want.
In the current data, it should be taken in account that Spain is exporting a lot of electricity to Europe, because the price differences. Without that exports, the rate would be higher than that
For anyone that is interested in this topic here is a nice website to check:

Sorry, i got a big mistake.
Denmark have ~60% of consumption with solar + wind, it’s better than in Spain. But Spain also have good second place
About time too. How is it possible that in a country like Spain, with plenty of empty space and abundant sunshine there isn’t a greater amount of solar energy generation? Because the governments have a vested interest in keeping on with traditional forms of electricity generation. You just have to look at the number of ex-ministers now working for the power companies. It is disgusting. It is shameful. And now that electricity and gas have such a huge cost to the consumer and the producers are still making a fortune with the connivance of the administration.
Vamos España!!! Ahora a hacer lo mismo con la recuperación del poder adquisitivo de los súbditos ya que estamos aquí!
I live in spain and my house is only electric and solar provides, on average about 95% of my energy…
Regardless as a spaniard here we will never see the cost reduction of renewables just a “its too expensive to run” and therefor heres is a 85 % hike in “tax”. Its great however we have a lot of resources to pull from but greed surpasses them all.
spain has a privileged geography for solar and wind, we should be pouring money into those
But overly complicated and bureaucratic
Interested in how solar develops in Spain over the next decade. It has absolutely massive potential for solar power.
Not even close.

Impressive, the sun only shines 360 days a year.
Imagine where we would be today if we did’t let M. Rajoy (whoever that is) tax the fucking sun.
So why is it SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE??!!
And yet the energy prices are so much expensive. Liberization of the energy companies in Spain was the nail in our coffin.
Highcharts.js lol
That’s good news but why are hydro and thermal being removed from the list?
