Just give them kids a free lunch ffs, I would be prepared to pay more taxes to have this.
Does anyone have any actual science to suggest that not eating breakfast causes worse performance? I found some studies which suggest a decent correlation but low effect, but this can easily be explained by other socio economic effects (like children who currently don’t eat breakfast may be on average worse off anyway, or that they eat less in total as well).
Sobering stuff, I mean the whole empty brooddoos issue and poverty on it’s own is a sad state of affairs.
However the “Parents don’t have the time to give breakfast”…I personally would rather sacrifice an extra 30 minutes of sleep then let my daugther go to school hungry. (and tbh 30 minutes is extreme, a breakfast of bread or cornflakes takes around, what 15 minutes tops?)
Stop paying child support and use the money to organize breakfast in school. Because the child support is obviously not arriving where it should arrive.
Oh this news again, every couple months like clockwork someone writes about this problem and no one ever does anything. If you make kids go to school, give them lunch. Why is it so fucking hard? It’s easy to blame parents and do nothing to solve the problem.
>In Sweden, national efforts to provide free schools meals started in the early 20th century, and comprised the majority of schoolchildren since the 1970s. All children in the ages 7-16 and to most students ages 16-19 are offered school meals on a daily basis.
My gf is Swedish and it blows her mind that kids are hungry in schools.
In the good old Days my mom could afford stay at home and take care of us when we where children. I know not a single couple that is able to do this anymore. Work work work is good for economy but not for children. imho
Maar de ouders rijden met bmw hebben de nieuwste iPhone, en zijn 2 keer per jaar op congé, altijd dezelfde bullshit. Prioriteiten zijn verkeerd. Das alles. (meestal)
Here’s a thought:
Give us 6 hour workdays where we earn the same per day/month (studies have already shown we are equally as or more productive in a 32h workweek, compared to a 40h workweek), resulting in people having a bit more time in the morning to wake up, get ready and take time to eat properly.

No good parenting, no more free money.

Perhaps King Connah [was onto something](https://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20201212_92800112) after all…

The UK had a free breakfast program in testing. Seems something we could at least look into in Belgium
