“You’re still poorer, but we’re sorry we told you about it”
>Mr Pill said: “If I had the chance again to use different words I would use somewhat different words to describe the challenges we all face.”
He added: “Although we have some difficult messages to bring. I will try and bring those messages in a way that is perhaps less inflammatory than maybe I managed in the past.”
I can’t actually see any “sorry” or “apology” in that word salad.
Why am I not surprised?
It’s what people voted for, I don’t know why they’d be upset to have gotten exactly what they wanted.
Poor choice of words, yes. But he wasn’t exactly lying was he . . .
No need to apologise. It should be a stark wake up call for the morons who keep voting in Tories. But they’ll somehow blame Corbyn or wokeism for their problems
I really don’t get it. What is there to apologise for? The statement is absolutely correct. I guess this is the people at the top telling him he needs to not make the current party look bad…As if anything could save them now.
Only poorer because the government are allowing people to make massive profits by conning the public
Which is all part of the plan, get people in to debt for basic living expenses and the they’ll wipe the debt if you give up your possessions
“You’ll own nothing and be happy” that’s the end goal
The direct, to the point approach is the best way. He has nothing to apologise for.
“If I had the chance again to use different words I would use somewhat different words to describe the **challenges we all face.**”
Bloke is on around £200k minimum with a £1.5m house in London.
It’s still true whether people are offended by it or not.
Breaking: Bank of England boss “the British people just have to accept that I’m sorry”
(He is not fucking sorry)
I always read the subtext as “you reap what you sow, you Brexit voting morons”.
I see no reason for an apology, what he said was true.
Money is a figure on a database that we have complete control over.
Think about it.
The thing is the economy is a zero-sum game; if one person gets poorer then by default another person must get richer.
So what he actually meant is that “we” must accept that we’re poorer (in order for a select few to continue making profits).
It’s not a cost of living crisis, it’s just a new norm.
Sorry for the backlash not his factually correct remark
I never understood why people got so upset by this. He’s absolutely right. If every business tries to raise their prices in line with inflation, and every employee tries to raise their wage in line with inflation, but nobody actually becomes more productive, then all we get is more inflation. It will be easier for everyone if we can just skip to the part where everyone realizes that bigger numbers are futile if every other number rises proportionally.
There’s no easy way out of the situation we’re in. We can’t fix things by juggling numbers around. We need to get our economy growing and become internationally competitive again.
England, the only country in history that voted for economic sanctions onto them selfs .😔
This is not something we should have to accept, it’s not because of inflation or Covid, it’s because companies like British Gas and Shell are taking record profits by price gouging and using all this financial distress as an excuse.
Billions of pounds of profits for these companies, tax breaks for billionaires and a hapless fool as PM who only cares about his wealthy friends is what has caused this.
The 1% are destroying the middle class and making the bridge between themselves and everyone else wider and wider by hoarding all the wealth and until people start realising this nothing will change.
This isn’t about left vs right, Labour vs Conservative, Starmer vs Sunak, it’s never been able that.
It’s just a tool that the super rich use to divide us, to treat junior doctors like absolute shit and not pay them, to let people have to steal baby formula to feed their children. Something HAS to change or they’ll be a societal collapse like we haven’t seen for hundreds of years but that means we have to stop caring about our differences and help each other and help the nation to overcome the greed and selfish actions of those running it and the world.
“Accept” has two different but related meanings here: one is acknowledging reality and the other is resigning oneself to it.
