German SPD chief sees new government before Christmas

  1. I’m a Scholz supporter, but I’m not going to lie, these negotiations are taking too long. SPD is Centre Left, Greens are Left and the FPD is Centre. Broad centre-left coalition should be easy, especially after 15 years in Opposition. Hurry up and form a government as all of us want to avoid a similar farce like the Belgian government formation a few years ago.

  2. Wow that’s some ballzy comment considering how long the last negotiation took.

He’s either bluffing or the Traffic Light talks are going exceedingly well.

  3. How does the country operate without a government for fairly long periods of time? I get that day to day functions will continue but how does the longer term stuff work?

Until I saw this article I didn’t realise how common it was for countries to take fairly long periods of time to form a Government. I’m not sure if we are doing things right or wrong in the UK as we have a much smaller number of parties in the mix so very rare to have to form a coalition. Maybe we need more choice.
