France opens investigation into Apple over alleged ‘planned obsolescence’ for smartphones

  1. All of Europe should start investigating more on every level of technology.

I was reading about Tesla making software updates that shortened the capacity of the battery by 20%.

  2. How could they suspect such a kind and caring corporation? Clearly, those frequent software updates and diminishing performance were just Apple’s way of testing our patience and building character.

  3. >planning for smartphones to become out of date through restricting their repair

Just when they stopped stealing phones because it’s high risk low reward… even phone repair shops stopped buying stolen phones because all that hardware is almost impossible to use for repairs.

To solve the problem Apple should directly cooperate more with repair shops.

  4. Good… No, great! Again France being the leader of the free world!

Let’s be honest, apple is as anti-consumer as it gets, I hope they go in deep into this!

  5. Not just Apple, every damn phone you can buy seems to get really really slow after a couple of years. There’s just no reason for it, the programs don’t suddenly need twice the computing power.

  6. Everything we purchase must be easily repairable, and batteries must unquestionably be replaceable. Simply doing that would increase many devices’ lifespans.

  7. Finally, get em France! I hope France drags that corrupt company through the mud. I actually really hate iPhones and many Apple products, and this is one of the reasons why.

  8. 🥱

Apple bad, updoots to the left

The people most worried about Apple’s products seem to be people who don’t even own them. Apple’s product support is kilometres ahead that of any manufacturer that uses Android. Name one that still releases updates for 8 year old phones

  9. iPhone 6s just now getting obsolete as a smartphone, but as phone for calls and messages should last another 7years.

As tech gets stronger its lifetime increases exponentially, we are at 10y+ and only limiting factor is software (and apples incompatibility of parts with eye watering prices ).

Something like iPhone x is still fully capable, but the replacement parts and incompatible parts disabling important features makes them useless.

  10. iPhone 6s is still perfectly usable after 8 years, is on iOS 15.6, receives security updates regularly and you can still use most of the apps on the AppStore (like your banking apps etc) just fine.

Name another brand/phone that can do the same out of the box. No, my parents will not jailbreak and flash custom roms on old samsungs.

Name a better price/quality laptop than a M1/M2 mac air.

France is investigating the wrong company. Most professionals use Apple. IT uses apple. Corporate starts migrating and letting users pick apple stuff. They are all wrong?
