Desperate parents are stealing baby formula to keep their children fed

  1. Can’t blame them. Maybe baby formula should be available on prescription for those in desperate need? If the parents are on low income then they’re likely eligible for free prescriptions to begin with and it’s worthwhile for the NHS too, so they don’t have to fork out for more expensive medical care if a baby falls ill from underfeeding or being fed inappropriate food.

  2. This is whilst the Tories are demanding people have more kids.

At the same time as doing everything they can to keep the poor in their place.

    What a world.

  3. We already use our healthy start scheme money to buy foruma to leave in our kids schools foodbank they set up because we heard of a few of the parents stealing to feed their baby

  4. We’re fortunate that a kind member of our community has created a baby bank so I’ve been able to go to them for baby formula once (I can’t breast feed due to surgery).

It’s not something you can use regularly though so I’m scared for the day soon when I’m faced with this scenario.

  5. If you know anybody this desperate please point them too healthy start. They provide means to get free milk for babies.

  6. I practically cried with joy the day I could switch my son over to cow’s milk! £13.50 for a tin of Aptamil vs £2.30 for 6 pints of full fat milk.

  7. This is bad.. are we now living in an underdeveloped county and they haven’t quite got around to telling us.. smh

What’s the solution. I always buy extra food items and toiletries to put in the food bank basket in the supermarket.

Wish there was a separate one for baby food, nappies, wipes etc and they could be handed out at churches, community.

Perhaps I should set this up. I live in close proximity to 3 large supermarkets and I have a church across my road..🤔

What would be the logistics.. (lol I’m so used to ChatGPT) if anyone works in this sector or could just advise on how one would go about setting this up, I would greatly appreciate it.☺️

  8. Anyone on a low income gets healthy start houchers to be spent on baby formula…it’s enough as I was on them

So not being funny they are obviously spending their money on other things. Your baby’s only food source should be coming before any other expenditure imo

I’d rather they steal than let their baby starve but really it’s avoidable

  9. I’ll ask a probably unpopular question on this issue.

How do we differentiate between parents/families who genuinely are in enough financial trouble to resort to this, and those(few not all)who may abuse help being offered?

In my local area there are more families where the parents immediately spend their income on themselves(alcohol, cigarettes, etc.)and then complain about how little they have to feed their children with, than families who work hard and through no fault of their own can barely manage to sustain themselves.

I’m not saying everyone or even the majority of families are at fault but how do we look at/determine/discuss a potential problem like this?

Whether I get piled on for writing this or not I hope somebody can look at and answer my question without taking offence where I haven’t intended any.

  10. It’s £13 now and was £10 when I was feeding my kids 10 years ago. They were nicking it then and they’re nicking it now.

    Thieves will always find excuses.

  11. well that’s what you get when you have the Tories in power for a decade.

Vote Tory = Shitter standard of life for everyone APART from the rich.

Vote Labour = Get drawn into an illegal war and have the government lie about it.

I’m convinced democracy doesn’t work. Why does it always have to be a choice between a douche and shit sandwich?

  12. From companies that are using the war in ukraine as an excuse to raise the price of everything because “petrol costs more” and they need to cover the rising costs of transport, despite making record profits IN THE BILLIONS? Those companies? Yeah fuck em, keep stealing baby formula.

If i see someone stealing a TV, yeah that’s a bit much mate, reporting that. But if i see someone stealing food, milk, baby formula/clothes? I didn’t see someone stealing food, milk or baby formula/clothes.

  13. One time I saw a woman in raggedy clothing attempting to steal baby formula. I immediately tackled her and held her under citizen’s arrest while the police arrived. She was crying and pleading for me to let her go as she is struggling to feed her baby. I said “quiet thief, you cannot forgo the law in this land”. Everybody cheered as the police carried her away, and one of the coppers even offered me a role in the police force starting at the highest rank.
