Five years transformation in Barcelona.

  1. Even the 2018 pic would be a huge improvement for my city lol. We’re so far behind that it makes me sad

  2. Perfectly viable in a city with a block/grid pattern street layout or lots of parallel intersecting streets. Not viable at all in a lot of European cities.

  3. They missed the opportunity to create more green spaces. Barcelona, like the rest of Europe, need to save rainwater. Tiling the street may not be the best way to improve water retention.

While this is definitely an improvement, they have to incorporate hydrology in the design of streetscape for the next streets.

It isn’t just about aesthetic. Since they are putting money into it, they might as well create more permeable greenery.

  4. I always liked old photos from cities in the early 1900s or the 1800s too for their wide, open streets that mostly were used by pedestrians (carriages too tho) and its sad that most space belongs to cars nowadays.

i dont think we should get rid of cars, but maybe far less streets for cars and more for pedestrians again. not only more beautiful, but i guess the air must improve too

  5. So you went from situation, where pedestrians, cyclists and cars all coexisted together and everyone to situation where there is pure pedestrian zone, so that cyclists drive through between pedestrians and there is huge unused space.

But cArS bAd, so enjoy your karma here

  6. so now there’s people on electric bikes and electric scooters zooming at 30km/h near pedrestians without care?
