Sunak rejects Tory MP’s claim about marriage between men and women

  1. The comments that this MP made are terrifying. I left my ex partner due to abuse. I did that because it was the best decision I could make for my daughter. I want her to grow up in a home that is safe and loving. I don’t want her to grow up in a home that has domestic abuse and where she may be abused herself. Leaving an abusive home is the best possible thing I could have done for my daughter. Yet he is saying that I shouldn’t have made that decision. I should have stayed in a relationship where I was being abused for the sake of my child.

I’ve since come out as bisexual. I’m now in a relationship with a trans man, who is absolutely amazing. We intend to get married at some stage, and have a baby together. This MP would prevent that. We are just ordinary people who want to have a very ordinary life, and we are treated like we’re the dangerous ones.

  2. Astonishes me why people think they’re justified in deciding who should be with whom and on what basis.

His Wikipedia states he is an “evangelical Christiaan” – wasn’t the nutter demanding everyone have more kids one too?

This is starting to feel very American.

These people have no spirituality within them, that is evident. They use their “religious belief” as a political shield.

Have no issue with people who genuinely have a faith but the first thing it teaches them is to be kind. These people could do with being reminded of that.

  3. ‘Marriage between a man and woman is the only possible basis for a safe and successful society.’

Yes, that’s why countries that outlaw gay marriage are well-known to be the least safe in the world. What a moron.

  4. > The National Conservatism Conference has brought conservative thinkers, politicians and journalists to Westminster

“Conservative thinkers” increasingly appears to be an oxymoron.

  5. > “Marriage is not all about you. It’s not just a private arrangement. It’s a public act, by which you undertake to live for someone else, and for wider society; and wider society should recognise and reward this undertaking.”

The party of small government, everybody.

  6. This Tory MP is out of touch with our modern world. Marriage is dying for good reasons, it’s no longer desirable or wanted. No fault divorce and the sexual revolution killed marriage. Along with everything else that drove a wedge between our genders.

  7. There’s no point to marriage anymore, from a male perspective. The odds are pretty much 50/50 of it failing these days. And the potential consequences for men of even a no fault divorce are devastating. Financial ruin, allegations of abuse to gain free legal aid and the weaponising of child access. It doesn’t make any sense to sign that contract.
There are approx 70,000 children in foster care with another 2000 waiting for adoption. If you want a family, there’s a ready made one, that doesn’t require female input. Or male input for that matter… and fostering/ adopting is wonderful thing to do.

  8. Sunak has absolutely no authority in government has he. His crazy MPs and Ministers are going too to neo-nazi conferences spouting fascist bullshit and he can’t stop them. In a democracy this would bring down the government.

  9. Brace yourself for the same intolerant bullshit ruining lives in the ‘States. Same as the 1980s. I am actually surprised Sunak put up opposition to this, blaming outgroups.

  10. “Mr Sunak’s spokesman said although some ministers had chosen to speak at the event, that did not mean the government endorsed its agenda” Sunak didn’t reject anything. As far as we know Sunak probably agrees with it.

  11. The truly terrifying thing about such people is that they are utterly convinced that they are right and will say and do anything to advance their cause.

  12. My MP, Labour’s Mary Glindon, thinks gay marriage should be banned. She wont tell you why but always votes against it. Strange for a woman that never votes against what Starmer wants.
