Hi everyone
I live in Bel Air (close to the Church) and in the last year i had three run-ins with what i think is an “Asian Giant Hornet” see [link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_giant_hornet)
The first two times was last summer, when it flew into my apartment (and scared the shit out of me) .
This time was half an hour ago, and it was on my roof window (which was open at the time) so i was face to face with the bastard. It was easily over 5cm long and looked just like the one in the linked wiki article. Unfortunately i was more concerned with getting the thing out of my apartment, than taking a good photo of it.
So im wondering if someone else living in the neighborhood had a similar encounter.

I’ve seen some hornets and maybe even a cicada killer but Asian Giant is bigger than what you normally see in Belair.

Very likely it was a queen.
The Asian giant hornets haven’t been seen in Luxembourg, let alone in Europe, yet afaik, that would have been reported in the news. It’s hard to tell without any picture but I’d say that if it “looks like 5cm” and if we factor in the scare effect then it’s probably more like 3-4 and that’s more likely to be a European hornet, they can be quite massive and are very common in the area.
I’ve seen one today in Kirchberg, close to Auchan.
Me last Saturday, every time I wanted to go out on the balcony- a hornet appeared out of nowhere. You have to be careful – at a friend’s house I saw a spray against hornets, which, after spraying at the insect – effectively killed it within seconds. These insects are active during the day and night. Late at night you need to be careful- they like to fly to the light.
