The war on Japanese knotweed

  1. That was a really interesting read. I didn’t realise how much recourse buyers can have if a surveyor doesn’t spot it.

Whilst not as bad as japanese knotweed, bamboo is also a pain in the ass. When we were looking to buy a house, any with bamboo in the garden were an instant rejection.

  2. There’s a desolate green area behind my parent’s home covered in the stuff and it’s growing over peoples’ fences. Local council cleaned out the same belt of green area a street over, but stopped when it got to the knotweed and tried to claim they didn’t own the land.

Load of bollocks. They were all built as council houses everywhere around this area, they just didn’t want to take ownership.

We managed to complain enough to a local councillor who took ownership now and they’ve promised to get it sorted. Fingers crossed they pull through. Fair play to that Sinn Fein councillor, earned my vote in this coming election.

  3. My mums house has a railway line at the bottom of the garden, knotweed came up the embankment and destroyed her garden. Took 10 years to get them to fix it. They removed so much soil it was crazy. Went scorched earth. Was back in 6 months
